Job description

Description
The Department of Asian Languages and Cultures at the University of Michigan invites applications for a tenure-track position in modern Chinese culture to begin August 25, 2027.
Qualifications
This is a university year appointment and will be at the level of assistant professor. Applicants with interdisciplinary teaching and research interests in modern Chinese culture, including in global and comparative contexts from the late nineteenth through the twenty-first century, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will teach a range of courses in modern Chinese culture, from introductory undergraduate lecture courses through graduate seminars. They will also supervise doctoral dissertations and participate in the programs of the department as well as in area studies initiatives within the larger university community.
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. Materials should include a cover letter, current curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy and experience, statement of current and future research plans, a writing sample, teaching evaluations and other evidence of teaching excellence, and three letters of reference. There may be some overlap with your research proposal and teaching statements (1-3 pages).
