Job description

Job Summary:

The Building Supervisor supports the comprehensive facility operations of the Hatfield Chilson Recreation Center by serving as a Manager on Duty and working closely with the Facility Operations Coordinator to train and lead staff. This position ensures a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all patrons while overseeing daily building functions, assisting parttime employees, promoting exceptional customer service, and contributing to the delivery of high-quality community programs. The role requires flexible scheduling, including evenings, weekends, early mornings, and holidays with the primary shift typically being Tuesday through Saturday from 1:00pm-9:30pm.

The salary range for this position is $25.42- $34.32 per hour with a hiring range of $25.42 - $29.87, depending on qualifications and experience.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide front-line customer service to guests through the enforcement of Chilson Center rules, regulations, and policies as well as through routine Center observations.
  • Resolve administrative concerns through the application of appropriate policies, procedures, and through positive interaction and collaboration with supervisor, Facility Management Team, and guests.
  • Act in a lead capacity to assign and direct work of part-time staff to ensure consistent quality service.
  • Schedule employees as required.
  • Assist staff as necessary including clerk/cashiers, lifeguards, facility attendants and childcare attendants.
  • In emergency situations, provide a safe environment by taking charge of the facility and guests.
  • Schedule & oversee birthday parties.
  • Responsible for all opening and closing procedures, cash handling and deposits, and overall security of the building, including the pool.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper operation of facility mechanical systems and contacting appropriate personnel for assistance as needed.
  • Provide direct support and event-day oversight for all special events and programmed activities including those hosted by internal and external entities;
  • Provide quality janitorial services by performing and assisting in all cleaning tasks and duties throughout the Chilson Center.
  • Perform daily event/program/class setups and strikes that may include heavy lifting and various janitorial tasks.
  • Provide written and/or verbal reports on inventory needs, cleaning schedules, janitorial work lists and task assignments through positive interaction and involvement with supervisor and staff members.
  • Provide basic maintenance, preventative maintenance and troubleshooting of building and equipment.
  • Responsive to guest needs by assisting, providing tours, quick response to injuries & incidents.
  • Provide written or verbal reports on inventory, cleaning schedules, task assignments, guest attendance.
  • Constantly moves throughout the facility to oversee all facility operations and respond quickly.

Other Job Functions:

  • Perform front desk duties during busy times.
  • Cross trains in other areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School graduate or GED required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation or a related field preferred.

Experience:

  • 2 years previous work experience performing similar customer service duties in a large commercial and/or public facility required.
  • Staff supervisory experience preferred.
  • Computer literacy preferred.

Certifications:

  • Current CPR and First Aid certification required, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • General working knowledge of recreation center operations and programming.
  •  Excellent customer services skill and be able to professionally handle guests, staff members, and vendors diplomatically and effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Good judgment, patience, and the ability to prioritize tasks must be demonstrated.
  • Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Prepare reports, monitor expenses using mathematical principles.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • Frequent strenuous to extreme physical effort that includes frequent use of heavy objects (e.g., 50+ pounds) and may also use heavy tools or require strenuous application in awkward positions.
  • Occasional exposure to marginal to moderate conditions that are unpredictable and may lead to injury.
  • Occasional exposure to hazardous conditions that may lead to workplace injury such as working in heights, exposure to fly ash and/or energized electrical equipment.

Continuous Floating Holiday:

  • This position may work evenings, weekends, and holidays.  As a result this position is eligible for Continuous Floating Holiday.
