Director of Children’s Ministry

Reports to: Executive Pastor
Work Hours: 32 Hours per week. Workdays and times change based on Children’s program requirements. Hours will be distributed throughout the week; regular hours on Sunday mornings are required. The position could become full-time depending on church needs and candidate preferences.
Supervises: Part-time assistant and volunteers
Purpose:
· To lead a healthy and thriving ministry to children (nursery through 5th grade) and families, compatible with the purposes of the church as listed in the above statement of mission and vision.
· To recruit, develop, train, equip and disciple a team of volunteer leaders who will in turn be able to reach the lost, disciple the found, and inspire all children to live as fully-devoted followers of Christ.
Responsibilities:
· Lead a comprehensive program for the spiritual development of children, nursery through 5th grade and their families.
· Oversee the various children’s programs including:
o Recruit, train supervise and encourage volunteers for Children’s ministry.
o Invite, evaluate, guide, and equip a team of volunteer leaders.
o Midweek programs including TREK (K-5)
o Summer Vacation Bible School (VBS)
o Monthly “Buddy Break” ministry through Nathaniel’s Hope (www.nathanielshope.org)
o Summer day camp at Camp Tilikum
o Special events including both community and Countryside sponsored
o Coordinates with Worship Pastor to involve children in music programs
o Parenting seminars coordinated with Youth Director
o Provide informational updates to the congregation and parents verbally and via electronic communication
o Support the Youth Ministry Program including occasional attendance at Youth Gatherings, mentoring youth, possible chaperone on overnight or day trips.
o Supports other staff with projects and serves as a resource for others. Act as a teammate working in coordination with other ministry leaders to accomplish the mission together.
o Propose and monitor the annual budget for the Children's Ministry by detailing financial requirements for the current and upcoming year.
o Implement and provide input for best practices of child safety
o Other similar duties and activities as assigned by the Executive Pastor
· Staff responsibilities
o Regularly attend and participate in weekend worship services.
o Attend and actively participate in weekly staff meetings
o Participate in weekly prayer for the church body.
o Serve on special committees as needed.
o Demonstrated and continued ability to relate positively with Pastors, staff, parents, congregants and children
Qualifications:
· Preferred minimum of Bachelor’s degree in education or ministry.
· 3+ years leading/directing children’s ministry or equivalent experience in a leadership role. This experience could be in a paid or volunteer capacity.
· Full agreement with the church’s statement of theological beliefs.
Personal Traits:
· Spiritually mature and a good role model. Must view the position as a calling from God.
· Strong leadership skills, ability to motivate people to action. Encourage volunteers to take responsibility and become self-directed as appropriate.
· Personable and approachable.
· Team player.
