Job description

Substitute/Substitute Teacher (Classroom)

 

Position Purpose
The Metropolitan School District of North Posey County employs approximately 200 staff members to provide positive learning experiences for over 1300 students during the course of a 180-day school year.  It is inevitable that one or more employees will be absent from their assigned instructional duties on any one given day due to such things as personal illness and/or business, staff development activities, curriculum development, student field trip experiences, etc.  It is imperative that students continue to learn during the absence of their regular instructor.
Employment Factors 
Substitute instructional personnel may indicate days of the week available and school, grade level, and subject preferences.  Substitute instructional personnel are paid on a daily (or half-day) basis.  Substitute instructional personnel without a valid Indiana Teacher's License earn $80.00 per day.  A rate of $95.00 per day is paid for substitute instructional personnel with a valid Indiana Teacher's License.  



 

Essential Job Functions

 
  • Follow regular teacher's lesson plans in a way that ensures consistency and optimal learning, and that encourages students to participate
  • Assign classwork and homework as necessary, according to lesson plans
  • Maintain a well-managed classroom and positive learning environment
  • Supervise students out of class such as in the hallways and in the cafeteria

Nurse, Custodial and Cafeteria Substitute
Employment Factors 


Substitute nurse, custodial and cafeteria personnel are paid on an hourly basis.  Substitute Nurses are paid at a rate of $15.00 per hour. Substitute Custodians are paid at a rate of $15.00 per hour for day shift and $15.10 per hour for an evening shift.  Substitute Cafeteria peronnel are paid $12.50 per hour.

Bus Driver Substitute
Employment Factors 


Substitute bus drivers are paid on a daily (or half-day) basis.  Substitute bus drivers are paid at a rate of $80.00 per day.

  • Must be at least 21 years old. Have at least six months of driving experience.
  • Must have a valid Indiana Driver's License
  • Must have a valid Social Security Card
  • Pass written CDL Tests with a passenger & school bus endorsement at BMV
  • Must complete a CDL Physical (Can obtain preauthorization to have completed at the North Posey Clinic)
  • Pre-Employment Drug Test (cannot complete any driving hours until drug test completed)
  • Expanded Criminal History Check and Expanded Child Protection Index Check
  • Corporation to order a Blue Card so applicants can practice with one of the corporation's current drivers.
  • Observe a minimum of 8 hours and drive a minimum of 8 hours with one of the corporation's route drivers.
  • Attend Three-Day Preservice Class - May be offered virtually through IDOE Moodle
  • Pass Skills Test (Corporation Driver will accompany trainee)
    • Pre-Trip Inspection
    • Basic Controls
    • Road Trip
  • After Skills Test is Passed, the following must be taken to the BMV to obtain License:
    • Valid Indiana Operator's License
    • CDL Permit (With Examiner Validation)
    • DOT/CDL Physical
  • Ongoing Requirements to Keep CDL w/ School Bus Endorsement & Yellow Card
    • Random Drug Tests
    • Safety Training Annually (1/2 Day Class)
    • DOT/CDL Physical Completed Every Two (2) Years
