Position Summary Information
General Description of Position
Under the general direction and supervision of the Child Development Center Director, the Group Supervisor's primary responsibility is the supervision and management of the assigned classroom by ensuring all State licensing standards are met.
The Group Supervisor will ensure that the classroom environment is safe and nurturing for all children and will include the implementation of an age-appropriate curriculum. The Group Supervisor will collaborate with the Early Childhood Education Program at Southeast Community College, serving as a mentor and providing opportunities and learning experiences for the program's students. This is a full-time temporary position.
Essential Functions
Provides care, safety, and education for the Child Development Center children:
  1. Advanced knowledge and enforcement of Nebraska State Licensing Standards. Understand and implement the National Association for the Education of Young Children's (NAEYC) developmentally appropriate practices and accreditation standards.
  2. Monitors and meets the child/teacher ratio in assigned areas.
  3. Maintains accurate assigned group attendance and records.
  4. Creates and implements classroom management practices, including room design and upkeep, daily schedule, weekly lesson plans with an emphasis on individualization, completion of screening and assessment tools, and meeting basic caregiving needs.
  5. Develop indoor and outdoor learning environments and experiences.
  6. Advanced knowledge of Early Childhood Education best practices and a willingness to stay current as required.
  7. Execution of age-appropriate social-emotional classroom experiences combined with the use of positive, strength-based behavioral guidance.
Partner with families to provide quality and consistent care and education for all children:
  1. Collaborate with families to plan a culturally appropriate curriculum that supports children's learning styles and interests.
  2. Communicates with families in a variety of formats.
  3. Leads parent/teacher conferences supported by screening and assessment tools.
  4. Assisted in the planning and execution of Center-planned family and staff activities and events.
Supervises Child Development Center's Support Staff:
  1. Onboarding and training, modeling best practices, supervising in the classroom, providing feedback through written and oral communication, completing evaluations, and communicating observations and needs to the Center Director.
  2. Participates in Center team meetings and activities.
  3. Supports the Center and colleagues through both verbal and non-verbal actions at all times.
  4. Promotes a solution-focused, strength-based leadership style.
  5. In the absence of the Director/Assistant Director, assists in performing essential functions of the Director/Assistant Director, which may include, but are not limited to: monitoring the front desk and entrance, parent communication and assistance, classroom oversight, monitoring ratios, and supervising scheduled staff.
Oversees Early Childhood Education Program students enrolled in laboratory courses:
  1. Provides feedback and guidance through written and oral communication.
  2. Communicates and cooperates with Program instructors on the performance and progress of Program students.
  3. Completes evaluations for submission to Early Childhood Education Program Instructors.
  4. Attends collaborative meetings and other joint opportunities and events initiated by the Early Childhood Education Program.
  5. Builds relationships with all Southeast Community College programs and departments through attending college staff meetings and events, and participating in planning committees as assigned.
  6. Willingness to participate in some events/activities/meetings outside of regularly scheduled hours.

Marginal Functions
  1. Model Early Childhood Education best practices at all times.
  2. Train and monitor hourly staff as assigned to maintain a high-quality program.
  3. Occasionally performs re-assigned classroom coverage due to changes in attendance and children/staff ratios.
  4. General upkeep of the Child Development Center grounds, cleaning, and housekeeping duties.
  5. Performs Child Development Center kitchen duties when assigned, which may include but are not limited to preparing and serving breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Cleaning of the kitchen as needed.
  6. Assists with orientations for parents, children, students, and staff.
  7. May be required to perform associated duties, functions, or assignments in other divisions/programs/areas as required.
  8. Perform other College functions and duties as assigned.
  9. Must be able to work varied days, hours, shifts, locations, and campuses as required. Work schedules (hours/days/work location) are scheduled by Southeast Community College based on the needs of the College. Work hours, shifts, days, and work locations may vary depending on the needs of Southeast Community College and are subject to modification. Emergency or scheduled special activities may require hours outside of the regular workweek.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  1. Knowledge of child safety and the ability to safely care for children in a group care setting.
  2. Knowledge of and ability to plan, implement, and evaluate children's age-appropriate educational programs, routines, activities, and best practices in child guidance.
  3. Be able to apply and demonstrate effective communication skills, written and verbal.
  4. Complete 12 clock hours of approved continuing education each Southeast Community College fiscal year in the area of Child Development and as required by Nebraska State Childcare Licensing standards.
  5. Complete all College-required trainings.
  6. Found eligible by completing a fingerprint criminal history check as required by the Nebraska DHHS Licensure Unit, Children's Services
  7. Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds in weight frequently and on a daily basis.
  8. Ability to endure moderate and consistent physical activity during the 8 hours assigned to work.
  9. Ability to communicate effectively in writing, in person, and on the phone.
  10. Ability to use basic computer skills.
  11. The individual must possess the above skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Minimum Qualifications
  1. Associate's Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, Human Development, or Early Childhood Education.
  2. One (1) year of experience working with children in a group care setting.
  3. Six (6) months of supervisory experience.
  4. First Aid/CPR Certification within 2 months of hire date.
Desired Qualifications
  1. Associate's Degree in Early Childhood, Child Development, Human Development, or Early Childhood Education, or higher
  2. Three (3) or more years of experience working with children in a group care setting.
  3. One (1) year of supervisory experience with adult staff.
  4. Experience in an NAEYC-accredited program, knowledge of Step Up to Quality, experience with developmental and social-emotional screeners and assessments.
Salary
$17.94 per hour
Benefits
SCC BEN Dollars - Eligible Employees: Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee's paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for income and employment taxes, but not subject to the College's contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan - Group Retirement Account (GRA).
Schedule
Normal working hours for this full-time regular position are scheduled between 6:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, requiring a minimum of a 40-hour work week, based on a 260-day work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek.
