Job description

Head Start Nurse, LPN or RN
SCHEDULE: Weekdays 7:30am to 3:30pm, 52 weeks per year. Paid leave includes all federal holidays and all other school district breaks during the school year, plus additional accumulated paid leave.
LOCATION: 175 Hudson Street, Syracuse, NY 13204
QUALIFICATIONS:
LPN or RN currently licensed in New York State. Two years of related experience, preferably working with children under age 5. Knowledge of child and family health, including prevention concepts, and experience utilizing or interest in learning skills such as hearing and vision testing.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Observe daily health status of assigned children, following up on problems noted with staff, parents and other professionals. Utilize Health Coordinator and Assistant Health Coordinator for technical assistance.
  2. Perform required health screenings and maintain current physical and dental reports. After reviewing medical reports, assist families in obtaining any identified medical care needed.
  3. Serve as an advocate for child health.
  4. Assist teachers in the preparation of children for various health procedures.
  5. Responsible for maintaining current health records for designated classroom building.
  6. Teach positive health practices to staff, children and parents.
  7. Promote environmental health and safety in the classroom building.
