Job Summary/Description:
Our ideal Chief Meteorologist is a master at every aspect of meteorology, from forecasting to preparing graphics, to reporting in the field, to being an integral part of reaching our community on television, digital, and social media platforms.
KGNS+ has an opening for a full-time Chief Meteorologist to lead our weather team. The ideal candidate for this role will have experience with both meteorology and leadership. They should be able to prepare and deliver weather forecasts and tell a relatable weather story across newscasts and digital platforms. We expect the Chief Meteorologist to create engaging, informative, and compelling news-and help the rest of the weather team do the same. The ideal candidate will also feel confident with community outreach-- visiting classrooms to educate young people about meteorology, reporting live from breaking weather locations and other events as needed, as well as participating in other public functions.
Duties/responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:
- Analyze weather data and prepare detailed forecasts
- Prepare graphics to support the weather presentation
- Flexible schedule for severe weather scenarios
- Lead team of Meteorologists, guiding them on presentation style and accuracy of forecasts
- Work closely with news management on content
- Creating and posting content for digital platforms & CTV Desk
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Degree in meteorology
- 2+ years of experience as a broadcast meteorologist
- Strong communication skills & teamwork
- Ability to lead an on-air weather team
- Ability to be creative with graphic design and presentation
- Demonstrated ability to forecast weather accurately
- Proficient in digital and social media platforms
- Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record
- Storm tracking experience is a plus
