Job description

Position Summary
We are seeking a dependable, self-directed Chief Engineer to oversee all maintenance and engineering operations at our select-service hotel. This is a hands-on, working role in which the Chief Engineer is the sole on-site maintenance professional.
The ideal candidate is highly organized, technically skilled, and comfortable managing daily repairs, preventative maintenance, vendor coordination, and emergency response independently.
Key Responsibilities
Property Maintenance & Repairs
  • Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliances, and mechanical systems
  • Maintain guest rooms, corridors, public areas, and exterior grounds to brand standards
  • Troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues efficiently and independently

Preventative Maintenance Program
  • Develop and maintain a structured preventative maintenance schedule
  • Ensure timely completion of room PMs and equipment inspections
  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs and compliance records

Vendor & Contractor Coordination
  • Coordinate with external vendors for specialized repairs (e.g., elevators, fire systems, roofing, major HVAC service)
  • Obtain quotes and manage service contracts
  • Monitor work quality and ensure compliance with property standards

Safety & Compliance
  • Maintain compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations
  • Oversee fire alarm, sprinkler, and life safety system inspections
  • Ensure OSHA and workplace safety standards are followed

Budget & Asset Protection
  • Manage the maintenance budget and control expenses
  • Monitor utility usage and implement cost-saving measures
  • Assist with capital improvement planning

On-Call & Emergency Response

Qualifications

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Basic computer skills for work orders and reporting
  • EPA certification and/or trade certifications preferred
Physical Requirements
