Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Engineer to oversee all aspects of facility operations, maintenance, and engineering services. The Chief Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the efficient operation of building systems, supervising technical staff, and implementing preventative maintenance and energy conservation programs. This role is critical to maintaining a safe, efficient, and compliant facility while optimizing operational costs. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, providing direct technical support as needed to achieve operational excellence.
$45 - $45 an hour

Responsibilities
  • Oversee the operation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, and environmental standards.
  • Supervise and manage technical staff, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to ensure equipment reliability.
  • Monitor and manage energy efficiency initiatives to reduce operational costs.
  • Establish and maintain operational testing schedules for critical building systems.
  • Manage and oversee contracted maintenance services when external vendors are required.
  • Maintain regular communication with building management and key stakeholders regarding facility operations and improvements.
  • Ensure proper inventory control for materials, tools, and equipment needed for maintenance and repairs.
  • Utilize work order systems to track, assign, and document maintenance activities.
  • Develop and manage operating budgets related to maintenance and engineering.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • Establish and enforce performance standards and best practices for facility operations.
  • Promote a culture of safety and operational excellence within the engineering team.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in facility maintenance, operations, or engineering management.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Experience managing technical teams and maintenance personnel.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with building automation systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, LEED, OSHA).
