Job description

Central Utility Plant Operator Lead
  • Department: Engineering Reports To: Central Utility Plant Manager
    Status: Non-Exempt

  • Position Summary
  • As a Team Member of the Engineering team, the Central Utility Plant Operator Lead is a CRCR Ambassador and takes personal ownership to ensure all of their actions are in the best interest of the business. The Central Utility Plant Operator Lead is responsible for maintaining all equipment, installations, and all related components as directed.

  • Position Functions
  • Essential Functions
  • Ensure the proper functioning of boilers, chillers, supply and return pumps, fans, cooling towers, water softeners, and water recirculation pumps.
  • Oversee the monitoring, inspection, troubleshooting, and unscheduled maintenance of boilers, fan room equipment, cooling towers, and other engine room systems and equipment.
  • Conduct emergency repairs and adjustments to building system components when required.
  • Maintain heaters, chillers, pumps, fan coil units, and similar equipment.
  • Perform safety checks on all relevant equipment as needed.
  • Follow all applicable codes, regulations, and governmental directives.
  • Consistently apply safety procedures (e.g., lock-out/tag-out) and use safety equipment.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

  • Oversee and direct operations, serving as the subject matter expert on departmental processes and procedures.
  • Train, guide and mentor Team Members to enhance processes along with facilitating training sessions.
  • Provide feedback to Shift Supervisors and Management regarding Team Member performance.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • High School diploma (or GED or High School Equivalence Certificate)
  • Knowledge and ability to understand, work with, make minor repairs to and troubleshoot all systems within a complex facility.
  • General understanding of all major building systems.
  • Knowledge of electrical, plumbing, heat, and cooling equipment.
  • Knowledge of testing equipment and ability to diagnose operational malfunctions.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2 + years of trade school or equivalent.
