STUDENT MENTOR - PART-TIME
OLIVE-HARVEY COLLEGE - Project Evolve
ย 

Olive-Harvey College is seeking a Student Mentor to work in the Project Evolve department, and provide support to our students and staff.ย  If you are a current City Colleges of Chicago student, we encourage you to apply for this exciting job opportunity!ย  Peer mentors welcome and support incoming students by:

Connecting students with campus resources, planning and leading social events, hosting, and moderating virtual spaces, visiting classes, sending inspirational texts, conducting check-in phone calls, and holding office hours to meet with students in person and via Zoom.

Eligibility Requirements:

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Applicants must be 16 years or older, have work permit consent, and eligible to work in the United States

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Applicants must be actively attending one of the City Colleges of Chicago

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Applicants must be enrolled in a minimum of 5 semester hours pre-credit or credit classesย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Applicants must be pursuing an approved educational credential, degree, or certificate

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Applicants must have and maintain a minimum cumulative 2.0 GPA (waived for first semester new students)

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Applicants must be in "good standing" - no City Colleges of Chicago academic restrictions

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Applicants must not be current Full or Part-time employees of the City Colleges of Chicago

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  All positions are "employment at-will"

Duties and Responsibilities:

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Under the direction of the assigned supervisor, the Student Mentor advises, guides, and serves as a role model forย 

other students as they transition to college life.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Explains CCC system to interested students; helps students become aware of College resources; advises and refersย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  students to appropriate College resources.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Provides information on study techniques, organizational skills and learning aides to support the student'sย transition to college life.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Meets with assigned mentee(s) to advise twice per month.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Assists with setting goals and works toward accomplishing each.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Advocates for mentee as necessary.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Attends mentor training sessions as required.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Records observations and submits reports to assigned supervisor as required.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Department

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Adheres to the City Colleges of Chicago Customer Service Excellence Standards.

Minimum Qualifications:

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  High School Diploma required or actively pursuing a GED at the City Colleges of Chicago

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Knowledge of City Colleges of Chicago, student activities, college resources and student services; knowledge ofย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  specific major or program

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Good interpersonal skills with a positive attitude and ease in relating to people from a variety of educational,ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  cultural and social backgrounds.ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Demonstrated good study techniques and skills.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Good oral communication skills.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Knowledge of computer software programs.

Student worker rate is $17.00/hr. ย If variance from $17.00/hr is required, College HR/Recruitment must discuss with District Compensation. The rate paid is in accordance with City Colleges approved salary scale.
