New Millennium Academy (NMA) is a public charter school, and its mission is to prepare learners for life by engaging them in high academic achievement and fostering cultural pride and identity. NMA's vision is to develop global leaders who transform the world.
NMA is a KG-8 charter school founded in 2005 to serve the growing needs of the Hmong population in the Twin Cities and currently serves approximately 800 students. In 2016, NMA relocated from Minneapolis to a brand-new building in Brooklyn Center. NMA offers a standards-based education with technology integration and support for English Language Learners (ELLs).

Primary Job Description
Under the supervision of the Development and Compliance Manager, the Communications Coordinator manages the creation of the school's annual yearbook, acts as the school photographer and videographer, manages the school's social media accounts and website, and produces marketing collateral that aligns with the school's branding.
The Communications Coordinator must demonstrate a strong work ethic, is detailed oriented, have integrity, and be accountable for their actions. The Communications Coordinator will align with NMA's core principles and understand the unique challenges of an immigrant and refugee community. A successful Coordinator will also have experience in a high-performing and fast-paced environment.
Marketing and Communications Projects (75%)
- Executing NMA's communications strategy in partnership with the Development and Compliance Manager
- Strategizing and managing graphic design, photography, print layout, video editing and other multimedia needs
- Manages the creation of the yearbook including planning, photo collection, layout, design, and student engagement. This may include facilitating a yearbook club.
- Coordinates picture days and make-up sessions and updates photos into Infinite Campus.
- Manages the photography at all school events and organizes the archiving of all photos.
- Archives all NMA brochures, communication materials, business cards, banners, etc.
- Maintains NMA's website and manages NMA's intranet.
- Creates promotional, marketing, and informational collaterals for posting to NMA's social media accounts, website, throughout the school and community.
- Manages NMA's social media accounts.
- Engages with members of the media when necessary.
- Maintaining CAIR-Chicago branding protocol and aesthetic
- Researching and implementing the use of new technologies to enhance CAIR-Chicago's communications
- Effectively describing and promoting NMA's work at events, speaking engagements, media interviews, etc.
- Ensuring all communications adheres to NMA's core values and mission
Special Projects (25%)
- Assists with school-wide projects.
- Support with the library.
- Supports the Community Engagement Coordinator as it relates to student recruitment and enrollment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements & Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree required in Communications, Graphic Design, Marketing or other related fields preferred.
- Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, etc.) proficiency is a must
- Basic photography, film making, and video editing proficiency
- Experience with advanced camera and microphone equipment is a plus. Willingness to learn required
- HTML, CSS, and content-management proficiency a plus. Willingness to learn required
- Self-learner, self-motivated, and able to work quickly
- Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work across multiple age ranges
- Ability to work independently and as a team to efficiently manage multiple tasks simultaneously
