Job description

Title: Network Engineer - Video System Integration, Cambium Networks

Work Location: (Work locations will be Elgin, Chicago, and customer locations)

Duration: 6 12 months

Mon-Fri 8am to 4pm

Interview Process: Virtual & Onsite

Temporary to possible hire based on business needs, performance, and attendance.

Schedule: 8 AM to 5 PM

Travel & Vehicle Usage: Yes, travel involve driving more than 30% - Use own vehicle

Security Checks: Background check for VPN and VMS access

Training: 2 weeks

Position is based in Downtown Chicago

Requires frequent travel to customer and installation locations within the Chicago area

Bachelor's in any of the following: Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, IT, Telecommunications

3+ years of Video System Integration, Network Engineering, System Engineering, or Wireless Communications Experience

Scope of Responsibilities / Expectations

The Chicago Solutions team comprises Sales, Project Management, System Engineering and System Technologist personnel working together in a high performance culture, often with demanding cycle times and high customer expectations because we are working on mission critical communication systems.

Our core customer uses a large complex network focused around real time video for public safety situational awareness. The system itself is comprised of multiple communication technologies and media types. The role will focus on the design, deployment and documentation of video solutions for this system.

The Chicago Systems Engineer will be responsible for overseeing all technical aspects of assigned project(s) from award until system acceptance.

This Involves:

  • Final Design and implementation of the video network including infrastructure, VMS, and camera equipment
  • Delivering professional presentations
  • System staging
  • System acceptance testing
  • Develop and maintain engineering designs, diagrams, and bill of materials
  • Provide technical support and advice to PM and Installation teams
  • Working with Operations and Project Managers to complete site walks to determine specific client needs and scope
  • Create project specific install plans, scope documents, and test plans
  • Configure, integrate, and troubleshoot equipment as required; provides support and assistance to third parties for sub contracted activities
  • Act as external liaison for customers' general contractors, subcontractors, and trades people as needed during implementation and support phases
  • Provide customer and peer training
  • Deliver final customer system documentation

Specific Knowledge / Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree (BSEE / BSCE preferred)
  • 3 5 years of Network Engineering, System Engineering or Wireless Communications experience (preferred)
  • Experience deploying outdoor Point to Point and Point to Multi Point wireless solutions, preferably with Cambium Networks
  • Strong organization, project management and communication skills
  • Experience, good understanding, and working knowledge in IP networking, network design methodologies and troubleshooting (Ethernet, TCP/IP, L2/L3, MPLS)
  • Experience/knowledge with current industry camera and video equipment, Video Management Solutions
  • Experience directly working with end user customers is desirable
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to present complex topics to non technical audiences
  • Self motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment

Preferred Experience

  • Troubleshoot/monitor network performance and resolve performance and connectivity issues
  • Experience with switching and routing protocols (OSPF, ISIS, iBGP, eBGP, M BGP, MPLS RSVP TE, and LDP)
  • Certifications through CompTIA Network+, Juniper JNCIA Junos, Nokia NRS1, CCNA, or similar (preferred)
  • Experience/knowledge in RF System Design (line of sight microwave propagation)

Key Contributions (First 90 120 Days): Design, Stage, and Install Network and video equipment
