Job description

Summary

Assist the Lab Director by performing a limited number of routine non-technical and technical lab duties (applicant must have successfully passed CHE 095 or CHE 111L). Assist lab instructor in helping students acquire various technical skills through demonstration and supervision in the physical sciences labs: CHE 111L, CHE 112L, CHE 152L, CHE 343L, CHE 344L, CHE 352L.

Essential Functions
  • Assist chemistry students in acquiring various technical skills through demonstration and supervision.

  • Help in the enforcement of safety rules as the students perform the experiments.

  • Assist students with basic computer programs such as those used for graphing (Excel, etc.).

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the lab, including the lab benches, weighing balances, and fume hood areas.

  • Prepare various solutions and reagents for experiments in the labs, as needed.

  • Assist the Lab Director in the organization of the chemistry labs and chemical stockroom.

  • Perform clerical duties, including photocopying.

  • Assist with the proctoring of exams and grading pre-labs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements
  • Current Barry University Student enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program, science major preferred.

  • Basic experience using Excel or Graphical Analysis software is preferred.

  • Must have successfully passed with a "B" or better in the course that he or she will be assisting.
