Leads, directs, and reviews the work of Engineers and Technicians in a laboratory setting.ย  Requires knowledge of chemistry (organic, polymer, inorganic) and analytical test methods.ย ย  Communicates internally and externally to explain and gain cooperation on policies and practices.ย  Makes improvements to processes, systems, and solutions.ย  Plans and establishes goals and objectives with short term impacts on operational goals.ย  Requires experience leading and managing projects, processes, and employees.ย  Performs a variety of duties in the mechanical and chemistry areas of the laboratory. Constructs, troubleshoots, calibrates, adjusts, tests, and maintains laboratory test instrumentation. Performs work from specifications, operating manuals, and written material test instructions.ย  Works with complex test instrumentation and computer systems. Operates related test instrumentation, conducts routine and complex testing, and reports data in prescribed format.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Improve processes to enhance performance and efficiency of the work area.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Develops justifications and business cases for capital equipment to improve and/or maintain lab capability and capacity

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Reviews submitted test data for accuracy, completeness, and compliance.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Approves test reports for distribution and recommends further testing when warranted.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Reviews and submit lab documentation (test and calibration procedures).

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Work with lab instrumentation such as FTIR, Instrons, DSC, Microtracs, titrators, & HPLC.

Qualifications:

ย 

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Physics or Materials Science and minimum 9 years of prior related experience, including working knowledge of a chemistry lab. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related experience. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.

In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role in Virginia is $106,000 - $197,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
