Position Summary

The Laboratory Technician will support chemists and technicians in the day to day operations of an industrial laboratory. The main focus of this position is customer technical support and service. The work will include: Performing routine product testing by following written procedures, using tools to prepare metal samples for testing and processing, processing materials on small scale pilot equipment, mixing small batches of chemical products following written formulas and procedures, taking detailed notes on the results of tests and procedures performed, writing detailed reports, Performing routine maintenance on laboratory equipment. Relevant manufacturing, production, maintenance or technician experience, along with a willingness to learn, is acceptable in place of laboratory experience.


Essential Responsibilities and Duties

Essential functions of the Laboratory Support Technician include, but are not limited to:



  • Operation of routine testing equipment

  • Operation of pilot scale equipment

  • Following detailed written instructions and procedures

  • Safe handling of hazardous chemicals

  • Following health and safety guidelines

  • Maintaining clear and accurate records in the form of a laboratory notebook

  • Performing routine maintenance on laboratory equipment

  • Writing clear and concise lab reports

  • Maintaining an orderly workspace


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication

  • Proficiency in basic arithmetic

  • Detail oriented

  • Focus on workplace safety

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and responsibilities

  • Computer Skills (Microsoft Office)

  • Driver's license and ability to travel locally


Education/Experience

  • Experience working in manufacturing, production, maintenance, or technician roles

  • Experience working with or around chemicals is preferred

  • Experience operating analytical or testing equipment is preferred

  • Experience following detailed written instructions and procedures


Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Majority of the work will be conducted in our onsite laboratory, where hazardous chemicals and equipment are utilized.

  • Standing for extended periods of time may be required

  • Lifting materials up to 50lbs may be required

  • This position routinely uses various types of laboratory testing and analysis equipment as well as standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, etc.

  • Travel requirements: Potential opportunity to travel to client sites.
