Job description

The goal of the Manager – Chemical Distribution Center is to successfully and effectively lead an end-to-end distribution facility team. The Manager – Chemical Distribution Center manages inbound activities related to receipt and storage of goods, inventory management and put away of product. As well as managing outbound activities related to order planning, picking, packing, shipping, or small parcel or LTL shipment. The Manager – Chemical Distribution Center administers overall inventory management, productivity and accuracy programs to ensure both customer requirements and financial requirements are met or exceeded in support of customer and operational excellence. The Manager – Chemical Distribution Center is responsible for the effective utilization of resources and equipment to ensure the daily operations of the distribution warehouse are performed in a timely, accurate and safe manner.


Responsibilities:

  • Manages the activities of warehouse and logistics personnel in a multi-shift operation. Team is responsible for:
  • Develop and implement warehouse work instructions, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Provides clerical support for inbound and outbound logistical operations including scheduling of trucks and LTLs.
  • Executes timely post-goods-issue (PGI) transactions for all outgoing shipments.
  • Creates delivery documents for outgoing truckloads per departmental processes, including hazardous materials shipments and international shipment paperwork.
  • Coordinates shipping schedule along with paperwork and SAP tasks related to LTL and full truckload shipment.
  • Assign, maintain and ensure stock locations are labelled correctly.
  • Drive continuous improvement in receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures.
  • Safeguard warehouse operations and contents by establishing and monitoring security procedures and protocols.
  • Proactively manage inventory levels by conducting physical counts; reconciling with data storage system.
  • Optimize physical conditions of warehouse by planning and implementing new design layouts; inspecting equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement.
  • Complete warehouse operational requirements by scheduling and assigning employees.
  • Implement strategic process improvements within the facility and team to meet and exceed KPI goals.
  • Facilitate warehouse employee onboarding and retention by recruiting, selecting, orienting, and training employees.
  • Drive warehouse employees’ job results by training, coaching, counseling, and disciplining employees, planning, monitoring, and appraising job results.
  • Active participation and demonstrated leadership to achieve team goals and objectives aligned with strategic deliverables.
  • Record shipment data such as weight, space availability, damages, or discrepancies for reporting, accounting, or recordkeeping purposes.
  • Review departmental errors and re-train when necessary.
  • Enforce 5S & housekeeping standards.
  • Any other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in logistics, finance, Business Mgmt. or equivalent preferred.
  • 5-10 yrs. Experience managing warehouse operations teams.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Attention to details and sense of urgency.
  • Able to handle high volume, fast paced, ever changing environment.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. on a regular basis.
  • Computer literate.
  • Must have forklift certification.
  • Must be able to work without supervision, and lead others.
  • Ability to work on Saturdays.
  • Knowledge of HAZMAT handling and shipping processes and record keeping.
  • Knowledge of general business practices and cost accounting principles.
  • Experience dealing with all levels of management and with resolving customer issues.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills are a must.
  • Knowledge of machining, assembly, production control and related manufacturing functions as required by area (Machining and Fabrication, Shipping and Assembly).
  • Thorough knowledge of warehouse and inventory control policies and procedures.
  • Experience with ERP systems applied to scheduling work in a complex manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of the product life cycle and underlying business planning requirements.
  • Proven project management and leadership skills.
  • Knowledge and experience in Lean Manufacturing and Theory of Constraints as they relate to continuous improvement.
  • Machinery operation requires the use of safety PPE equipment to include but not limited to; eye safety glasses, hearing protectors, steel-toe shoes, and hardhats. Loose fitting clothes and jewelry are not permitted.
  • Able to sit at a desk, as well as walk and stand in the warehouse for up to 8 hours per day.
  • Must be able to carry boxes and product up to 50 pounds to and from the warehouse or different departments.
  • Travel (up to 25%) as needed.
