Job Title: Mixer Operator

Job Description

The Mixer Operator is responsible for producing batches of material in accordance with detailed specifications, ensuring product quality, safety, and accurate documentation throughout the mixing process. This role involves weighing and handling raw materials, operating mixing equipment, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining a clean and organized work area within a chemical manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

• Review the daily mixing schedule and plan work to meet production requirements.
• Produce batches in the mixer as scheduled, following established mixing procedures and batch tickets.
• Inspect reconditioned drums prior to use in accordance with internal standards and procedures.
• Dump completed batches from mixers into appropriate containers while maintaining correct identification and labeling.
• Communicate with the previous mixer operator at shift change to discuss any irregularities or special instructions.
• Follow the Mixing Procedure to produce standard production batches and adhere strictly to batch ticket parameters.
• Stop the process immediately and notify the Group Leader and Quality Assurance if any abnormalities occur, including suspect non-conforming raw materials, batch parameters outside specified ranges, suspect finished goods containers, or unusual equipment function such as leaks or odd noises.
• Maintain accurate identification and traceability on all batches, drums, and raw materials.
• Complete all required paperwork correctly and on time, including batch tickets, mixing dump reports, and other production documentation.
• Inform the Manager promptly of any unidentified or misidentified batches, drums, or raw materials, as well as any safety or maintenance concerns.
• Keep the work area neat, clean, and free of unnecessary clutter to support safety and efficiency.
• Run processes to maximize product quality and output while following all safety and quality guidelines.
• Ensure all safety apparatuses and protective devices are in place and functioning properly before operating equipment.
• Follow first-in, first-out (FIFO) practices to ensure the oldest lots of raw materials are used first.
• Handle hazardous waste safely and in accordance with procedures, when assigned.
• Perform real-time production reporting in SAP or similar systems to maintain accurate inventory and batch records.
• Communicate effectively with all team members to coordinate work, share information, and resolve issues.
• Perform inspections and tests on drums and batches to verify quality and compliance with specifications.
• Operate a forklift to move raw materials, finished goods, and equipment as needed.
• For "A" Mixer Operators: train new Mixer Operator Trainees on procedures, safety, and equipment operation.
• For "A" Mixer Operators: make trial batches for Research and Development and Product Development projects.
• For "A" Mixer Operators: manufacture highly critical products designated specifically for "A" Mixer Operators.

Essential Skills

• 1–3 years of experience in mixing, batching, compounding, or blending operations in a production or chemical environment.
• Experience with batch production processes and batch documentation requirements.
• Ability to operate mixing machines, blenders, and related production equipment safely and efficiently.
• Experience as a Mixing Operator or Batching Operator with 1–3 years of hands-on production experience.
• Basic chemical handling experience and understanding of working with chemical materials.
• Ability to operate a forklift or willingness to learn forklift operation as required.
• Strong attention to detail for following batch tickets, mixing procedures, and quality parameters.
• Ability to lift up to 60 pounds repeatedly throughout the shift.
• Comfort working in a facility with strong odors and exposure to fumes and chemical materials.
• Ability to pass a skills key test assessing job-related capabilities.
• Ability to pass an audiogram test to ensure safe work in a noisy environment.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English to understand procedures, safety information, and documentation.
• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent level of education.
• Physical ability to perform overhead reaching, twisting, turning, pivoting, bending, crouching, and frequent walking.
• Ability to stand on feet for the entirety of 8–10 hour shifts.
• Ability to frequently climb ladders and stairs and move on and off a forklift throughout the shift.
• Ability to clean equipment, products, floors, and surrounding areas as part of regular duties.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Prior industrial cleaning or housekeeping experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Previous mixing and batching experience in chemical or production settings.
• Forklift experience or prior forklift certification.
• Experience in chemical manufacturing, particularly with automotive materials.
• Ability to train on 1st or 2nd shift before moving to a regular 2nd or 3rd shift assignment.
• Willingness to work mandatory or voluntary weekend shifts when business needs require.
• Ability to work overtime as posted and adjust to changing production schedules.
• Comfort working around moving equipment, noise, vibrations, dust, and fumes in a manufacturing setting.

Work Environment

This role is based in a chemical plant that produces predominantly automotive materials, with a climate-controlled work environment for most areas. Team members work in a manufacturing setting with exposure to moving equipment, noise, fumes, vibrations, dust, and strong odors, and reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Shifts are structured on a contract-to-hire basis over approximately 90 days. Shifts available are 2nd shift from 3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; and 3rd shift from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday. Weekend work may be scheduled on Saturday and Sunday based on business needs or voluntarily, and mandatory weekend work may occasionally be required. Overtime opportunities are communicated in advance, with schedules posted weekly near the time clocks, and may include Saturday only or both Saturday and Sunday. Candidates for certain 3rd shift mixer roles train initially on 1st or 2nd shift before moving to their regular schedule. The dress code requires steel-toed shoes, and safety personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, respirators, gloves, and hearing protection is provided. The work involves frequent physical activity, including standing, walking, climbing ladders and stairs, moving on and off forklifts, and performing cleaning tasks, all within a safety-focused production environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Evansville, IN.

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $25.00/hr.
