Job description

The Director of Facilities provides strategic and operational leadership for all physical plant, environmental, and information technology support service functions within Charter House, Mayo Clinic's Retirement Living. This role ensures the safe, compliant, efficient, and resident-focused operation of building systems and services, while aligning facilities strategy with organizational goals. The Director of Facilities serves as a key member of the organizational leadership team and regularly presents to the Charter House Board Finance Committee on operational performance and capital planning 

Facilities Operations & Services 

Oversee Environmental Services (EVS), maintenance and operations, IT infrastructure support, and campus security functions. 

Ensure reliable operation, maintenance, and optimization of all building infrastructure systems and equipment 

 Maintain compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Includes leading/co-leading the Charter House safety committee and coordinating annual safety audits. 

Financial & Capital Management 

Develop and manage the facilities department operating expense budget. 

 Manage annual capital planning and board approval processes. 

Ensure effective execution of approved capital projects. 

Renovations & Asset Stewardship 

Ensure all apartment renovations and building expensed projects are compliant and completed efficiently. 

Oversee contractor performance and documentation. 

Leadership & Organizational Role 

Lead and mentor service line leaders. 

Serve as a member of the Charter House leadership team. 

Foster collaboration with executive leadership. Foster and contribute to a strong relationship with support services provided by Mayo Clinic (I.E. Facilities Project Services, Global Security, Emergency Management, Safety, HTM) 

Resident & Stakeholder Engagement 

Support positive resident relations. 

Build strong internal and external relationships. 

Governance & Communication 

Provide board-level presentations. 

Communicate technical and financial information clearly.

Bachelor's degree in facilities management, construction management, business administration, or engineering field.  Master's degree preferred.  Minimum 7 years of relevant facilities experience including 2 years of supervisory experience. Ten years of experience in facilities including 5 years of supervisory experience preferred.  CHFM, PE, CFM, or similar certification preferred.
