Yield & Monetization Analyst (Contract)

Job description

About the role
Character is building one of the most engaged consumer AI products in the world, and we're scaling the advertising business that helps fund it. Our core programmatic infrastructure is already in place. We're bringing on a Yield & Monetization Analyst on a contract basis to strengthen the analytical and operational layer on top of it working hand in hand with our Data team and the rest of the monetization function.
This is a role for someone who is fluent in advertising technology and the programmatic advertising ecosystem: you'll partner with the Data Science team to define the audience segments that drive pricing, maintain a disciplined weekly cadence for monitoring and adjusting price floors, and keep ad monetization in lockstep with our broader initiatives including subscriptions, and one time purchases so the strategies reinforce one another rather than compete. You'll work alongside our existing monetization teams who handle the underlying ad-stack architecture and implementation; your focus is segmentation, floor governance, and cross-functional alignment.
What success looks like
We expect this role to deliver:
  • A segmentation framework, built with the Data Science team, that breaks inventory and audiences into meaningful cohorts (geo, device, surface, engagement / session depth, user tenure) and feeds directly into pricing and demand strategy.
  • A standing weekly price-floor review running smoothly geo-tiered Unified Pricing Rules monitored, adjusted, and documented against fill and eCPM, with a clear audit trail of changes and outcomes.
  • Ad monetization decisions are visibly coordinated with subscriptions and other monetization initiatives, ad load, segment treatment, and floor strategy aligned to LTV and user experience so the lines complement rather than cannibalize each other.
  • A reporting view that connects segments โ†’ floor changes โ†’ revenue outcomes, legible to Monetization team, Data Science team, and leadership.

What you'll do
  • Partner with various internal and external stakeholders to define and continuously refine audience and inventory segments, and translate those cohorts into actionable targeting and pricing strategy.
  • Own a weekly price-floor governance cadence: review geo-tiered Unified Pricing Rules against performance, propose and apply adjustments, and track the fill / eCPM impact of every change.
  • Stay in lockstep with broader company monetization initiatives aligning ad strategy, ad load, and segment treatment with LTV, conversion, and user-experience goals, and adjusting on the fly should cannibalization risk be identified.
  • Monitor daily and weekly revenue, investigate anomalies and discrepancies, and run structured A/B tests to validate floor and segment changes.
  • Build and maintain dashboards that tie segment performance, floor movements, and demand-source behavior to revenue, partnering with Data on instrumentation and attribution.
  • Support demand integrations (AdX / Open Bidding, Amazon TAM) in partnership with the monetization owner and Engineering, contributing the analytical lens.
  • Help translate findings into clear recommendations and briefings for Monetization, Data, and leadership stakeholders.

What you'll bring
  • 4+ years in yield management, ad operations, revenue / monetization analytics, or publisher monetization, with a strong analytical core.
  • Demonstrated experience with audience / inventory segmentation and cohort analysis, and comfort working closely with a data team; SQL and BI tooling (e.g. Looker, Tableau) a strong plus.
  • Hands-on Google Ad Manager fluency, especially Unified Pricing Rules and floor management, plus a solid grasp of the programmatic ecosystem (AdX / Open Bidding, header bidding, SSP / DSP / RTB).
  • Understanding of hybrid monetization - how ad-supported and subscription / paid models interact, and how to balance ad revenue against LTV and retention.
  • A disciplined, cadence-driven operator who can run a reliable weekly review and keep a clear audit trail of decisions.
  • Strong communication - able to make segment and floor analysis legible to both technical and business stakeholders, and to coordinate across functions.
  • Self-directed and outcome-oriented, comfortable owning a defined scope and delivering within a fixed term.
