Configuration Management Data Specialist


Seeking a configuration management database (CMDB) Configuration Manager who is a strong technical leader who can be counted on as the expert in configuration management.

Individual will oversee and participate in the day to day processing of Service Requests and Change Management tasks assigned to the Configuration Queue - as well as reporting on Change and Configuration Management Database (CMDB) data to clients and account management teams.

Working knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) principles and best practices in Service Management are important when reviewing and processing these tasks and requests to ensure proper processes are adhered to.

Individual will be responsible for ongoing service improvement, documenting process, standards and policies. Must communicate effectively to members of the other process teams. This also includes updating documentation and creating instructions for others.

The Configuration Management Team has overall responsibility for the data accuracy in the CMDB. This includes performing audits (scheduled and ad-hoc) as well as identifying data and process inconsistencies. The Configuration Management team will be using their time to improve the processes, the CMDB data and the overall service, when not executing on the service request queue. Constant improvement is expected.

The Configuration Manger ensures that the CMDB data reflects reality and takes the necessary steps to address any gaps.

Develop and manage reports. Must understand business cases / requirements and understand what those requirements really mean.

Know the value of configuration data and participate intelligently in the tradeoff discussions that are an inevitable part of determining scope. This Individual must create training materials and train, when necessary, other IT staff on what the CMS / CMDB is and how to use it. Individual must work with the appropriate stakeholders to develop and document the requirements on which the CMS / CMDB is based.

The manger must provide technical lead support during project execution for projects defined during the Configuration Management assessment project that has been approved. Individual will also Assess impact to the CMS data model and tool as new CIs/Attributes/relationships are introduced into the environment.

In addition to working with other process teams and system administrators, the Configuration Manager must also develop an effective working relationship with Configuration owners, Change Requesters and other support teams. Experience in ServiceNow Configuration Management preferred.

The role of the Configuration Management team will frequently be presented with new requirements for analyzing data and extracting information from the CMDB, therefore a demonstrated understanding of performance analytics reporting and other data extraction techniques is a key technical requirement.

Furthermore, the Configuration Management team may also be responsible for executing the IBM Change Tickets (IMAC), other system integration as well as other data loads.
