Job description

Overview

Group 1 Automotive, Inc. is seeking a highly strategic and hands-on Senior Manager, HRIS to to lead the evolution of our HR technology landscape, with a primary focus on Workday.

This role will serve as the enterprise owner of Workday strategy, implementation, and optimization, with a strong emphasis on Core HCM processes. As we continue to optimize Workday HCM and Payroll, this leader will play a critical role in assessing readiness for the potential future implementation of other Workday modules, , increasing user adoption, and ensuring scalable, standardized processes across a complex, multi-business unit organization. The Senior Manager, HRIS will also lead change management for Workday announcements and training and will oversee the Workday change control process.

This is a highly visible leadership role requiring deep functional and technical expertise, strong cross-functional partnership, and the ability to translate business needs into effective system solutions.


Responsibilities

  • Lead Core HCM optimization while assessing the business readiness for possible future expansion in alignment with business priorities and timelines.
  • Define and execute a multi-year HRIS/Workday roadmap, focused on scalability, adoption, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with HR, Talent Acquisition, Payroll, Finance, IT, Legal, Compliance and other stakeholders as required to ensure successful deployment, integration, and optimization of Workday modules.
  • Drive enterprise adoption and change management, ensuring consistent usage across 140+ locations
  • Consult with functional owners to continuously improve Workday core business processes, including hire-to-retire lifecycle, recruiting workflows, approvals, job architecture, and organizational structures. Standardize processes across multiple business units while enabling operational flexibility where needed.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for automation, simplification, and improved user experience. Ensure alignment between business needs and system configuration.
  • Oversee HRIS operations, governance, and reporting/analytics strategy—managing system configuration, integrations, security, data integrity, change control, documentation, and enabling data-driven decision-making.
  • Manage vendor relationships, including performance, contracts, upgrades, and RFP processes.
  • Serve as the organization’s Workday subject matter expert, including deep knowledge of Core HCM with strong working knowledge of Payroll and other modules. Stay current on Workday releases, new features, and upcoming capabilities, proactively identifying opportunities to enhance system value and leading system release summary sessions.
  • Build strong partnerships with HR leadership, Talent Acquisition, operations leaders, IT, and external vendors. Act as a trusted advisor, translating business requirements into scalable HRIS solutions.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing HRIS team, providing coaching, mentorship, and direction. Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and innovation.

Qualifications

  • 7–10+ years of progressive HRIS experience with leadership experience
  • Deep expertise in Workday Core HCM, including business process framework, configuration, and security
  • Proven experience leading Workday implementations and/or major system deployments (Workday Recruiting implementation experience strongly preferred)
  • Knowledge of additional Workday modules (Payroll, Talent, Learning, etc.)
  • Experience with integrations (EIB, Studio, APIs) and advanced reporting/analytic
  • Demonstrated experience supporting global operations
  • Experience supporting large, multi-site or multi-business unit organizations
  • Strong understanding of HR operations, talent acquisition processes, and data structures
  • Demonstrated ability to drive system adoption and change management
  • Experience in retail, automotive, or similarly distributed workforce environments strongly preferred

Salaray range: $156,000-$195,000 can vary depending on experience
