Position Description: Quality Manager
Location: Houston, TX
Department: Quality
Reports to: Site Leader
About AV8 MRO
AV8 MRO, a Victor Sierra Aviation company, is a leading FAA and EASA-certified aircraft component repair station specializing in the overhaul, repair, modification, testing, and exchange of aircraft landing gear systems and related components. We are committed to delivering exceptional quality, service, and operational excellence to customers around the world.
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Quality Manager to lead the quality function at our Houston facility and support the continued growth of our organization. This individual will own AV8 MRO's Quality Management System, ensuring landing gear overhaul, repair, modification, testing, and exchange work - as well as our Engineering team's PMA parts development program - is performed safely, compliantly, and to the highest standard across FAA, EASA, customer, and company requirements.
This role provides senior leadership across quality and works in close partnership with Production, Engineering, and Procurement to balance customer commitments, regulatory compliance, and operational performance. The ideal candidate brings strong FAA Part 145 repair station quality leadership, including prior Chief Inspector experience, and is comfortable representing AV8 MRO directly with the FAA, EASA, and customers.
Key Responsibilities
• Own, maintain, and continuously improve AV8 MRO's FAA- and EASA-regulated Quality Management System across all landing gear overhaul, repair, modification, testing, and exchange operations.
• Serve as AV8 MRO's primary point of contact with the FAA (FSDO/CMO), EASA, and customer quality representatives for audits, surveillance, and certification activities.
• Own and maintain the Repair Station Manual (RSM), Repair Station Quality Control Manual (RSQCM), and related quality control documentation and procedures.
• Directly oversee or personally serve as Chief Inspector for the FAA Part 145 Repair Station, ensuring inspection, airworthiness, and return-to-service standards are met across receiving, teardown, plating, assembly, testing, and shipping.
• Own evaluation and approval of PMA and alternate parts for installation eligibility on landing gear and related components, in accordance with FAA and EASA requirements.
• Provide quality oversight for Engineering's PMA parts development program, partnering with Engineering to ensure design, production, and airworthiness data meet FAA requirements.
• Own the Approved Supplier/Vendor Program, partnering with Procurement to qualify and monitor vendors supplying parts, materials, and outside processing (e.g., plating, NDT).
• Serve as ultimate authority on the Material Review Board (MRB) for disposition of non-conforming material and repair station findings.
• Lead, manage, and develop the quality team, including inspectors and quality engineers, championing a proactive, accountability-driven quality culture.
• Own and drive the CAPA process - leading root cause analyses, assigning corrective and preventive actions, and ensuring timely resolution.
• Partner with Production, Engineering, and Procurement to balance quality, schedule, and customer commitments.
• Track and report key quality metrics, including inspection turnaround, non-conformance rates, audit findings, and customer quality escapes.
• Communicate directly with customers on quality concerns, escalations, and technical questions as needed.
Required Qualifications
• 10+ years of aerospace quality experience, including leadership within an FAA Part 145 repair station.
• Strong FAA regulatory experience, with demonstrated understanding of oversight, inspection, and airworthiness requirements.
• Strong understanding of FAA Part 145 MRO operations and/or FAA PMA development.
• Technical purchasing experience - evaluating suppliers, technical specifications, and managing an approved vendor program.
• Demonstrated leadership managing quality teams in a hands-on production/repair environment.
• Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, technical documentation, and airworthiness data.
Highly Preferred Qualifications
• Experience serving as Chief Inspector in an FAA-certificated Repair Station.
• Experience as an Accountable Manager within an FAA and/or EASA-certificated repair station.
• Working knowledge of AS9100 quality management standards.
• Aircraft and Powerplant (A&P) Certificate.
• Aircraft component or landing gear overhaul experience.
• EASA repair station experience.
• Bachelor's degree in quality, engineering, or a related field.
• ISO 9001 experience.
• AvSight or similar MRO/ERP system experience.
What Success Looks Like
The successful candidate will:
• Lead a safe, compliant, and audit-ready quality operation across FAA and EASA requirements.
• Reduce non-conformances and quality escapes while improving inspection turnaround time.
• Build a strong, accountable quality team with a solid succession bench.
• Strengthen supplier qualification and PMA/alternate parts evaluation processes.
• Serve as a trusted quality partner to customers, the FAA, and EASA.
