Manager - Project Management & Business Transformation

CompassX Group

Irvine, CA โ€ข On-site

$130K - $160K/yr

Full-time

Medical, Dental, Vision, Life, Retirement, PTO

Job description

CompassX is a boutique business and technology consulting firm. We help Fortune 500 and high-growth clients deliver their most strategic initiatives, from enterprise transformations to digital and data-driven projects. With over 15 years of proven results, we've expanded across industries including financial services, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, consumer products, and quick service restaurants.

We are honored to be recognized as a three-time winner of Consulting Magazine's Best Boutique Firms to Work For, and previously recognized as a "Best Place to Work" in Southern California and one of INC.'s 5000 fastest-growing private companies in the U.S.

We're looking for a Senior Project Management Consultant who's built their career running technology implementations - and is ready to bring that experience to bear in a boutique consulting environment where you'll have real ownership over delivery outcomes.

At CompassX, PMs aren't coordinators. You'll drive complex, multi-workstream technology programs in demanding enterprise environments, working directly with senior client stakeholders and cross-functional delivery teams. The work spans digital transformation, data platform rollouts, enterprise system implementations, and AI-enabled modernization programs.

A secondary skill that complements project delivery - business analysis, change management, process design, or technical fluency - is a meaningful differentiator here.

What You'll Do
  • Own Program Delivery: Lead end-to-end delivery of complex technology implementation programs - scope, schedule, budget, risk, and stakeholder alignment across the full lifecycle.

  • Drive Cross-Functional Coordination: Keep delivery teams - engineers, architects, designers, business stakeholders - aligned, unblocked, and moving. Surface issues early and resolve them before they become escalations.

  • Manage Senior Stakeholders: Build and maintain trusted relationships with client leadership. Communicate program status clearly, navigate organizational dynamics, and earn standing to push back when needed.

  • Build and Run the PMO: Stand up project infrastructure: governance cadences, RAID logs, status reporting, decision logs, and change control processes that actually get used.

  • Flex Into Adjacent Needs: Depending on the engagement, contribute beyond pure PM work - business analysis, requirements facilitation, change management planning, or vendor coordination.

  • Leverage AI for Delivery:ย Use AI tools to improve program reporting, risk synthesis, meeting follow-up, and stakeholder communications - and help clients build AI-enabled delivery practices.

What You'll Bring
  • Technology Implementation Experience: 5-10 years managing enterprise technology programs - ERP rollouts, data platform implementations, digital transformation programs, or similar. This is your core.

  • Consulting Background: Experience in a consulting or professional services context. You know how to onboard quickly, establish credibility, and operate without a lot of hand-holding.

  • Delivery Rigor: Strong command of program and project management fundamentals - planning, risk management, change control, escalation handling. PMP or equivalent experience welcomed.

  • Stakeholder Presence: Comfortable presenting to senior client leadership and operating in complex organizational environments. You build trust without needing a title to do it.

  • Secondary Skill: A complementary capability that strengthens your delivery work: business analysis, process design, change management, data literacy, or technical fluency in the platforms you manage.

  • AI-Forward Mindset: You use AI tools in your workflow and are curious about how they improve delivery velocity and program outcomes.

  • Local Presence:ย Based in LA or Orange County, with the ability to be on-site at client locations in the SoCal area if required.

Benefits
  • Competitive salary with performance-based bonus
  • PTO, holidays, and sabbatical program
  • Health, dental, vision, and life insurance
  • Retirement plan with company match from day one
  • Learning and professional development support
  • Small-firm culture with direct access to leadership
$130,000 - $160,000 a year
This role could be as a full-time employee of CompassX or potentially as an independent contractor (1099)
Our consultants say CompassX is a place where they can truly find their own path. As part of a smaller firm, they see the impact of their work, have an identity, and know their voice matters. They value the freedom to take the reins of their careers, shape their client work, and maintain a direct line to leadership.

With CompassX's focus on serving local Southern California clients, consultants not only build lasting relationships but also see the results of their work in the communities where they live.

At CompassX, you won't just follow a path - you'll create one.

These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans.
