About this opportunity:  

The Challenge Course Assistant supports the operation of the camp’s challenge course, helping create a safe, engaging, and meaningful experience for campers. Working alongside the Camp Challenge Course Specialist, this role assists in facilitating age-appropriate challenge course activities that promote teamwork, confidence, and personal growth. The Challenge Course Assistant plays an active role in encouraging participation, ensuring safety standards are followed, and contributing to the overall camp program. You’ll be part of a collaborative, Christ-centered community that values fun, service, and intentional mentorship. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist with the operation and facilitation of challenge course activities under the direction of the Camp Challenge Course Specialist. 

  • Support safe, fun, and age-appropriate challenge course experiences that promote teamwork and personal growth. 

  • Help implement all safety procedures and ensure required precautions are followed at all times. 

  • Assist in teaching and monitoring proper use of challenge course equipment, including ensuring correct helmet fit. 

  • Conduct routine equipment and supply checks; report maintenance or repair needs as needed. 

  • Clean, secure, and properly store equipment after each session; help maintain a clean challenge course area. 

  • Support basic record keeping related to participants, equipment, and program needs. 

  • Perform all duties in accordance with Salvation Army policies, regulatory requirements, and American Camp Association standards. 

  • Model Christian values and integrate faith into daily interactions, camper programs, and camp life. 

  • Utilize appropriate behavior management and communication techniques as trained. 

  • Support and participate enthusiastically as a team member in overall camp programming, special events, and evening activities as part of a collaborative staff team. 

  • Must be at least18years old and a high school graduateor GEDpreferred. 

  • A heart for others and a mind towards Christ. 

  • Shouldbe self-motivated and teachable. 

  • One year experience leading sports, recreation or challenge course activities preferred, or 

  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. 

  • A willingness toabide by The Salvation Army doctrinal statementandCampHoblitzelle’spolicies. 

  • Certification or documented training from a recognized organization or certifying body for the types of Challenge Course activities offered. 

  • CPR & First Aid certified or capable of passing by June 15, 2026 (training provided by Camp Hoblitzelle during staff training if needed). 

  • Must be able to pass a state and federal background check. 

Additional Information:  

  • Camp Staff Training will be held June 3 – June 14, 2026, and participation is required. The 2026 summer Camp program sessions will be held June 15 - July 26, 2026. If you are unable to work the entire season, please let us know on your application.
