Take Charge in the Field as a Survey Party Chief – Lead Crews, Capture Critical Data, Deliver Results

 

Are you an experienced survey professional who takes pride in leading crews and delivering precise, high-quality field data? Do you thrive in hands-on environments where every project brings new challenges and opportunities to apply your expertise?

CHA Consulting, Inc. is seeking a Survey Party Chief to join our Survey Geospatial Team in Columbia, SC, where you’ll oversee field operations supporting infrastructure and transportation projects across the region. This is an excellent opportunity for a driven leader who combines technical skill, strong decision-making, and a commitment to accuracy to guide teams and keep projects moving forward.


  • Direct and lead field crew members through daily survey assignments, ensuring safe, efficient, and wellcoordinated field operations in alignment with safety protocols and quality assurance standards
  • Perform record research, construction stakeout, boundary, topographic, transportation, and utility surveys utilizing total stations, data collectors, and GPS
  • Review legal documents, plans, and project materials to accurately plan and execute surveying projects
  • Create and verify field sketches and field computations related to traversing, map interpretation, and layout

  • High school diploma required; Associate’s degree and/or Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience required
  • Strong knowledge of surveying practices, field procedures, and industry standards
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferred; knowledge of AutoCAD and MicroStation preferred
  • Strong communication, time management, and team coordination skills with the ability to represent the firm professionally with clients and the broader public
  • Ability to lift and carry equipment over uneven terrain and work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to travel short-term required
  • NSPSCST Level II certification preferred; LSIT preferred
