Job Summary
The Mod Apprentice assists with the modernization, repair, and installation of hydraulic and traction elevator systems. Under the supervision of experienced mechanics and modernization technicians, this role supports the installation of microprocessor controllers, door equipment, pumping units, hoist machines, wiring, fixtures, hoist ropes, packings, and other elevator system components. The Mod Apprentice plays a key role in ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with elevator modernization and repair projects in a safe, professional, and productive manner.
  • Support the installation, adjustment, testing, and repair of elevator equipment and associated components.
  • Assist in conducting inspections, repairs, and modernization work to ensure safe and reliable elevator operation.
  • Help perform annual safety tests and inspections to verify the proper operation of elevator safety devices.
  • Assist in troubleshooting mechanical and electrical issues within elevator systems.
  • Support the evaluation of existing equipment and proposed modifications or upgrades.
  • Maintain compliance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and applicable elevator codes.
  • Properly use and maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicles.
  • Keep work areas organized, clean, and safe.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Certified Elevator Technician (CET) certification, technical school training, or Elevator Mechanic License preferred.
  • Previous construction, mechanical, electrical, or elevator industry experience is preferred but not required.
  • Willingness to learn elevator modernization, repair, and installation techniques.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Basic knowledge of hand and power tools, including grinders, drill motors, and coring machines.
  • Ability to learn and safely use electrical testing and diagnostic equipment.
  • Basic understanding of hoisting, rigging, chain falls, and lifting equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
