The Rigger safely moves, lifts, and installs heavy equipment or materials using Lifting and Handling tools such as wire ropes, cranes, forklifts andchainfalls. They plan and set up rigging systems, attach loads securely, and coordinate with teams to ensure everything is moved safely and efficiently.
Typical duties include but are not limited to:

Assemble rigging to lift and move equipment or material in manufacturing plant or shipyard, select wire ropes, synthetic slings,chainfalls, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.

Give directions to Crane Operator or Hoisting Engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensuresafetyof workers and material handled, using hand signals,loudspeaker, or radio.

Rigging lift duties include maintenance on cranes, re-wiring cranes, and pouring socketsin accordance withapplicable regulations. Splices synthetic or natural fiber rope and wire cables to make or repair slings and tackle.

Attach load with rigging gear such as slings, wires,ropesand chains,to cranehook. Give directions to Crane Operator or Hoisting Engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensuresafetyof workers and material handled, using hand signals,loudspeaker, ortelephone.

Setup, braces, andrigshoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches, splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings and tackle, and may direct workers engaged in hoisting machinery and equipment.

Applicable Rigger training and certificate from NCCER, NCCCO, or from approved 3rd party certification body,required.

Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.

Ability to do basic math,i.e.add, subtract, divide, and multiply.

Understanding ofrigging components such as shackles, wire rope slings, block and tackle, come-a-longs, and air tuggers, including their capacities and proper use.
