Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Patrols facilities and property making observations to detect unauthorized persons or activities, unsafe conditions, and ensuring life safety standards are maintained.
  • Maintains visibility to deter criminal activity and takes a proactive approach to crime prevention.
  • Maintains appropriate communication with Supervisors, fellow Officers, Security Operations Center, and Law Enforcement to report crimes, incidents and safety related irregularities.
  • Intercedes in disputes between individuals by using verbal de-escalation techniques and skills to diffuse potentially violent patient, employee, or visitor situations.
  • Physically manages combative, violent persons without hesitation using techniques taught in the required annual aggression management training
  • Responds and intervenes in confrontations and restrains violent or disoriented persons as lawfully directed, providing support to clinical team as patient emergencies arise.
  • Observes the necessary safety precautions and established protocols for observations, holds, and patient restraints in accordance with federal, state, and organizational mandates to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Controls access to restricted organizational properties and verifies the admittance of authorized individuals.
  • Escorts people/property to desired destination when safety of property or individuals is a concern
  • Assists with parking and security during special events and provides visitors with directions and security information.
  • Interviews and investigates individuals involved in suspicious or illegal activities.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • External candidates must have a minimum of Five (5) consecutive years of armed security, military, or law enforcement experience within the last 7 years.
  • Must have Possess(ed): a. A POST certification; OR b. Have been registered through a military (DD214 or current Military ID); OR - All active, reserve, retired or honorable discharged military personnel will meet the licensing/certification requirement c. Federal, state, or local licensing firearms certification (Department of Homeland Security, NASA, NRA, GBI, or Secretary of State) Internal candidates must meet a minimum of three(3) consecutive years as an Emory Public Safety Officer (PSO) to be considered.  
  •  Proficient in all assigned equipment and weapons upon training.
  • Meets Expectation on most recent Emory Healthcare performance review (if applicable).
  • No disciplinary action higher than a verbal warning during most recent Emory Healthcare performance review period (if applicable).
  • Must possess a valid Driver's license and have a clean driving record with no recent history of major traffic violations.
  • Must be able to operate a company vehicle when required.
  • Attend EHS Public Safety Trainer Course within 6 months.
  • Complete FEMA IS 242, 904, 914, 915; OBP- AWR-903; FEMA IS 240, 241; and OBP AWR-340 within 12 months of hire.
  • Obtain IAHSS Advanced Certification; IAHSS Supervisor Certification; EHC Public Safety Advanced Firearms Certification; CPI or Equivalent Instructor Certification; IAHSS Healthcare Safety Certificate; and IAHSS Work Place Violence Certification within 12 months of hire. PREFERRED/ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Attend EHS Public Safety Trainer Course within 6 months of promotion. Complete EHC PS Leadership Course within 6 months. Complete FEMA IS 242, 904, 914, 915; OBP- AWR-903; FEMA IS 240, 241; and OBP AWR-340 within 12 months of hire. Obtain IAHSS Advanced Certification; IAHSS Supervisor Certification; EHC Public Safety Advanced Firearms Certification; CPI or Equivalent Instructor Certification; IAHSS Healthcare Safety Certificate; and IAHSS Work Place Violence Certification within 12 months of hire.
