Job description

The hospital Physician Clinical Systems Specialist under direct supervision from the Market Clinical Informatics Director and according to established policies and procedures functions as an electronic medical record (EMR) system expert and is primarily responsible for training clinicians to efficiently use the Cerner EMR and to proactively provide at the elbow support to clinicians throughout the hospital. The Physician Clinical Systems Specialist will at times assist in the implementation, support, and optimization of the EMR and other clinical systems. 

  • Required: High School Diploma
  • Preferred: 3 years of experience in clinical hospital setting
  • Ability to develop, maintain and collaborate with clinicians
  • Ability to problem-solving and resolve conflict 
  • Understands clinical workflow and has the skill set to integrate technology into clinical practice
  • Excellent verbal, presentation, and written communication skills required 
  • Must serve as a model of credibility, professionalism, and customer service

The Physician Clinical Systems Specialist is responsible for purposeful hospital rounding; providing direct support to providers and nurses to ensure end users successfully integrate the EMR into clinical workflow.  The Physician Clinical Systems Specialist ensures consistent and effective use of the EMR that aligns with policy, procedure, and standards.  The Physician Clinical Systems Specialist may at times create education content to communicate and educate providers and clinicians in EMR changes, initiatives, and projects. 

The Physician Clinical Systems Specialist regularly provides suggestions and seeks feedback from physicians and clinicians regarding the EMR communicating such information to the Market Clinical Informatics Director. 

The Physician Clinical Systems Specialist collaborates with the Market Clinical Informatics Director to improve physician and clinicians' satisfaction with the EMR, promote "voice of the customer" and improve IS service and support.
