What does a ceramic assistant do?

A Ceramic Assistant supports ceramic artists or production studios by preparing materials, mixing glazes, loading and unloading kilns, and helping with the cleaning and maintenance of tools and workspaces. They may assist in shaping, glazing, or finishing ceramic pieces under the direction of a lead artist or supervisor. This role is essential for ensuring that the studio runs smoothly and that artists can focus on their creative work. Ceramic Assistants often gain valuable hands-on experience and learn various techniques in ceramics, which can be beneficial for pursuing a career in the field.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a ceramic assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Ceramic Assistant, you need a basic knowledge of ceramic materials, kiln operation, and hand-building or wheel-throwing techniques, often gained through vocational training or studio experience.
