What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Ceramic Assistant, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Ceramic Assistant, you need a basic knowledge of ceramic materials, kiln operation, and hand-building or wheel-throwing techniques, often gained through vocational training or studio experience. Familiarity with equipment like pottery wheels, glazing tools, and safety protocols is typically required. Attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to follow precise instructions are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills and qualities are crucial to producing high-quality ceramic pieces and maintaining a safe, efficient studio environment.

What does a Ceramic Assistant do?

A Ceramic Assistant supports ceramic artists or production studios by preparing materials, mixing glazes, loading and unloading kilns, and helping with the cleaning and maintenance of tools and workspaces. They may assist in shaping, glazing, or finishing ceramic pieces under the direction of a lead artist or supervisor. This role is essential for ensuring that the studio runs smoothly and that artists can focus on their creative work. Ceramic Assistants often gain valuable hands-on experience and learn various techniques in ceramics, which can be beneficial for pursuing a career in the field.

Pratt & Whitney has a long history of leadership and innovation in the field of aviation propulsion. Our story begins in the 1920s and has flourished throughout the decades. We have continuously transformed and reinvented our businesses to offer superior products and services to our customers. In 1925, the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company was founded by Frederick B. In 1928, the Canadian division of the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company was established. In 1944, Pratt & Whitney began its gas turbine and jet propulsion initiative. The company constructed a wind tunnel, laboratory and engineering center to support our allies’ efforts in World War II. In 1945, wartime production included more than 300,000 Pratt & Whitney engines, touted by service members as extremely dependable – a legacy that continues today.
