The Physician - Podiatric Medicine is responsible for providing direct and appropriate clinical care and treatment to Central Health patients in the specialty area of Podiatry.
The Physician - Podiatric Medicine time allocation is as follows: 1.0 FTE dedicated to the responsibilities outlined above. This position is considered on site.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Duties: Provide Podiatry care to primary care and referred patients. Plan, promote, demonstrate, recommend and coordinate high standards of Podiatric medical practice. Demonstrated expertise in relevant medical practices, protocol, trends and best practices in clinical areas assigned. Demonstrated knowledge and success in effecting overall clinical operations. Proficiency in the use of a computer, software packages, and office machines. Work within the scope of credentialing privileges. Prepare and review medical histories and obtain data through interviews. Examine patients, formulate diagnostic plans, define and order required diagnostic testing. Interpret examination findings and test results, and implement treatment plans. Determine need for consultation and assists in medical care and treatment provided at the direction of other specialists. Participate in other care procedures according to training and demonstrated ability. Observe that communications with patients are culturally and linguistically appropriate. Interview patient, obtain patient history, update all information and documents in EHR according to standards. Ability to supervise, advise, and train clinical professionals and/or students in area of expertise Provide consultation to the nurses and clinical staff. Consult with other staff physicians and para-medical personnel regarding medical management of patients and common podiatry problems encountered in the clinic. Confer on the planning and direction of the primary care team as it relates to the podiatry. Within scope of credentialing, may perform surgeries and surgical care in Ancillary Surgery Center or hospital settings; Perform the following procedures: nail debridement, callus trimmings, wart excision, ingrown nail excision, injection therapy (corticosteroids, local anesthetics), excision cutaneous skin lesions, nail matrixectomy/avulsions, skin ulcer treatment (debridement), strapping/taping of the foot and ankle, and closed reductions of minor foot fractures. Diagnostics including weight bearing x-ray Interpreting x-ray and and ultrasound results Use of Diagnostic Ultrasound (US guided injections, diagnosis of Soft tissue masses) Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: High level of skill at building relationships and providing excellent customer service. Interpersonal savvy and influence skills in managing difficult clients and patients. High degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of medicine and associated charting requirements. Requisite skills and ability to perform certain medical tasks as assigned. High level of problem solving skill to better serve patients and staff. Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to utilize computers for data entry and information retrieval. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and emergency situations successfully. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to implement, and evaluate operational and administrative processes. Experience/knowledge of Joint Commission accreditation process and requirements, as well as all federal, state and local regulations and standards associated with the delivery of care in a Federally Qualified Health Center. Demonstrated understanding and/or experience working in a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) environment. Demonstrated understanding and/or experience working in an integrated delivery environment.
People Management/Department Management/BusinessUnit Management: Directly effect improvements in patient well-being through accurate and timely diagnosis and delivery of relevant, high quality medical care. Ensure all tasks provided and associated with patient care, patient administrative processes and related duties comply with all regulatory and accreditation standards including The Joint Commission and Central Health Standard Operating Procedures and Central Health Policies and Procedures. Develop and maintain favorable internal relationships, partnerships with co-workers, including clinical managers, clinical support staff, providers and business office staff. Interact respectfully and collaboratively with patients and their families, striving to develop favorable relationships with families. Collaborate with all members of the care team in providing patient-centered care. Ensure all actions, job performance, personal conduct and communications represent Central Health in a highly professional manner at all times. Uphold and ensure compliance and attention to all company policies and procedures as well as the overall mission and values of the organization. Complete all mandatory training and maintain appropriate credentials/licensure. Record patient health information timely and accurately according to the appropriate standard of care, the applicable laws and regulations governing and practice of medicine in Texas, the policies and procedures of Central Health's Medical Executive Board and as may otherwise be required by a licensed facility or other organization where medical services may be provided. Lead and/or participate in the development, deployment and management of safe, effective and efficient clinical services to Central Health's covered population through a variety of methods including contracted services, post-acute services oversight, clinical support infrastructure development and oversight of direct service delivery as applicable and appropriate pursuant to the Medical Executive Board's policies and procedures Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsMINIMUM EDUCATION: D.P.M. from an accredited college of podiatric medicine. Completion of a residency acceptable to the TexasPodiatry Licensing Board. Completion of an accredited residency in Podiatric Surgery.PREFERRED EDUCATION:MINIMUM EXPERIENCE:PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Holds and maintains these certifications as a professional. Lapsing/expiration of these certifications/licensure will result in suspension of work: Unrestricted licensed to practice Podiatric Medicine and surgery in the State of Texas. Board Certification by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery or the American Board of Podiatric Medicine or Board Qualification followed by passage of Board Certification examination within two (2) years of employment. Current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) number for the purpose of writing prescriptions. Current Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) through American Heart Association Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers through American Heart Association.PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSUREREQUIRED COURSES/COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR): Current Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) from the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. Current Basic Life Support Certification for Healthcare Providers.
