About the Organization

The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) is an umbrella policy and advocacy organization for nearly 200 groups in New York State. We envision a New York state that is stronger because all people are welcome, treated fairly, and given the chance to pursue their dreams. Our mission is to unite immigrants, members, & allies so all New Yorkers can thrive. We represent the collective interests of New York's diverse immigrant communities and organizations and devise solutions to advance them; advocate for laws, policies, and programs that lead to justice and opportunity for all immigrant groups; and build the power of immigrants and the organizations that serve them to ensure their sustainability, to improve people's lives, and to strengthen our state.

Our organizational values: Inclusive & Representative; Fair & Just; Accountable & Trusted.

Ensuring a fair and accurate Census count each ten years requires substantial planning and investment. Given the grave concerns and incredible opportunities with the 2020 Census, a number of organizations came together in 2018 to form New York Counts. New York Counts is a one-of-a-kind coalition - composed of more than 110 racial justice, immigrant, religious, health, education, labor, housing, social services, and business groups representing the diversity of NYC, as well as state and local government officials and foundations - working to ensure that New Yorkers are properly counted by and served by the census. The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC) serves as the convener of the New York State Census Partnership and New York Counts.

  • Facilitate quarterly New York State Census Partnership meetings
  • Provide direction for the evolving demands of the New York Counts campaign, including but not limited to the campaign launch event
  • Work with the NYIC Chief Executive Officer to navigate key external relationships - liaise with staff of other nonprofit organizations, funders' and government officials, serve as a spokesperson for the NYIC and New York Counts, develop and negotiate working arrangements, and coordinate joint efforts when necessary.
  • Coordinate and ensure forward movement of the NYIC's internal Census work, including coordinating staff from different departments, teams and consultants.
  • Maintain and monitor internal project plan, timeline and goals, ensuring program deliverables are being met in a timely fashion and supporting changes as needed should deliverables shift.
  • Create one pagers, talking points and other documents and content for internal or external use by key stakeholders, as needed.
  • Supervises interns, fellows, or other staff as necessary.
  • May occasionally carry or move materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications:

  • Three (3) to five (5) years of complex project management experience, a must
  • Experience leading coalitions in a social justice, immigrant rights, and community engagement setting, strongly preferred
  • Familiarity with the Census and its impact on redistricting and budget allocations throughout all levels of government, a plus
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks under deadline pressure
  • Meticulous organizational skills, ability to prioritize projects and follow through on detail with high-level accuracy
  • Must have excellent written, verbal, interpersonal, and strong communication skills
  • Must be a team player and able to adapt as necessary to changing circumstances
  • Competency in Microsoft applications and G-Suite is an asset.
