What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Cellar Bar staff member, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Cellar Bar staff member, you need knowledge of beverage service, basic bartending skills, and compliance with health and safety regulations, often supported by a food handler or alcohol service certification. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory management tools, and bar equipment is typically required. Excellent customer service, teamwork, and attention to detail are essential soft skills for creating a welcoming atmosphere and managing busy shifts. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring efficient operations, customer satisfaction, and regulatory compliance in a hospitality environment.

What are some common challenges faced when working in a cellar bar environment?

Working in a cellar bar often involves managing high customer volumes in a confined space, which can make it challenging to maintain efficient service and ensure guest comfort. The role may require maneuvering heavy kegs, restocking supplies quickly, and maintaining cleanliness in a low-light setting. Additionally, cellar bar staff frequently collaborate closely with bartenders and kitchen staff, so strong teamwork and clear communication are essential. Adapting to changing shifts and late hours is also common in this fast-paced environment.

What is a cellar bar?

A cellar bar is a type of bar located in the basement or lower level of a building, often characterized by a cozy, intimate atmosphere. These bars may be designed with exposed brick, low ceilings, and dim lighting, creating a unique and inviting environment for patrons. Cellar bars can serve a variety of drinks, including craft cocktails, beer, and wine, and are popular for their distinctive ambiance and sometimes historic settings.

What is the difference between Cellar Bar vs Bartender?

JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery is located in the Paso Robles region of California's Central Coast. We operate with a desire to make world-class wines that reflect the unique soils and climate of the area. We take great pride in making Bordeaux-style blends and single varietals, combining Old World tradition with New World techniques.

JUSTIN Vineyards & Winery has an opening for a Harvest Scale House Weighmaster for the 2026 harvest, beginning in August and lasting through November. • ERP data entry related to wine movements, harvest lots, and production records
    • Supporting cellar and production teams with system updates and documentation
  • Responsible for understanding and complying with applicable quality, environmental, and safety regulatory considerations.

  • Possess a positive attitude; strong communication skills, detail-oriented and comfortable working alone as well as communicating with others
  • Self-motivated and willing to reach out when unsure of the procedure
  • High School diploma or equivalent

Pay Range: $21.00 - $23.00 an hour. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
