Cecl information
What are typical career growth opportunities for someone working in a CECL analyst role?
CECL Analyst roles offer a clear pathway for professional growth, often leading to senior analyst, risk management, or even leadership positions within finance and risk departments. With experience, you may take on responsibilities such as managing larger modeling projects, supervising junior analysts, or contributing to broader enterprise risk strategies. Continued skill development in data analytics, regulatory compliance, and financial modeling can also position you for advancement. Many organizations actively support CECL professionals with training and cross-functional opportunities to help you build a long-term career in quantitative risk analysis.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the CECL position?
To thrive as a CECL (Current Expected Credit Loss) Analyst, you need a strong background in finance, accounting, and statistical modeling, often complemented by a degree in finance, mathematics, or a related field. Familiarity with CECL compliance standards, quantitative risk modeling software, and data analytics platforms is critical, and certification such as a CPA or FRM is often valued. Analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and clear communication are essential soft skills for effectively collaborating across finance and risk teams. These competencies ensure accurate expected credit loss modeling, compliance with regulatory requirements, and effective stakeholder communication in financial institutions.
What is a CECL?
A CECL job typically involves managing the Current Expected Credit Loss (CECL) standard, which requires financial institutions to estimate expected credit losses over the life of a loan. Professionals in this role work with financial modeling, data analysis, and risk assessment to ensure compliance with accounting standards. They often collaborate with risk management, finance, and regulatory teams to develop loss forecasting methodologies and reporting processes.

Job description
Chief Accounting Officer
What You Will Be DoingWe are seeking a Senior Director of Global Revenue / Revenue Controller to own and drive ChargePoint's entire global revenue function - from technical accounting and CECL reserves to ERP-based revenue automation, AI-powered process improvement, deep analytics, deals desk operations, contract review, and revenue operations. This executive will set the strategic direction for revenue accounting, ensure full compliance with ASC 606 and ASC 326 (CECL), and serve as a key business partner to the C-suite, Sales, Legal, IT, General Accounting, and FP&A on all matters affecting revenue recognition, deal structuring, and operational scalability.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned revenue accounting executive who is equally comfortable setting strategy and rolling up their sleeves to get the work done - this is a hands-on leadership role where the expectation is deep personal involvement in technical accounting research, memo writing, deal review, and system work alongside team leadership. ChargePoint's management culture is one where leaders do the work, not just oversee it. The ideal candidate has deep SaaS/tech industry expertise, a proven track record of building and leading lean and agile high-performing global teams, hands-on experience driving automation through NetSuite ARM, use of AI tools, and the technical communication skills to write airtight accounting memos, argue complex positions before auditors, and translate technical conclusions clearly for non-accounting stakeholders. This leader will architect and continuously improve ChargePoint's revenue infrastructure, enabling the company to scale across new product lines, regions, and go-to-market channels.
- Serve as the executive owner of ChargePoint's global revenue accounting function, setting strategy and maintaining full accountability for all revenue recognition, reporting, and compliance under ASC 606 and US GAAP
- Lead all revenue technical accounting, including complex multi-element arrangements, variable consideration, principal vs. agent assessments, contract modifications, and CECL reserve methodology (ASC 326) for trade receivables and contract assets
- Own end-to-end revenue accounting in NetSuite ERP using Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) - including configuration, automation, and continuous optimization of revenue recognition schedules and rules
- Build and lead the Revenue Desk and Deals Desk functions, providing real-time technical guidance to Sales, Legal, and Finance on deal structuring, non-standard terms, and revenue impact analysis prior to contract execution
- Own the contract review process, partnering with Legal and Sales Ops to evaluate revenue accounting implications of new and amended customer agreements at scale
- Drive deep revenue analytics - including cohort analysis, disaggregation reporting, bookings-to-revenue bridge, ARR/MRR tracking, and ad hoc analysis to support executive decision-making and investor relations
- Lead revenue operations, including month-end close, flux analysis, reconciliations, and coordination with General Accounting and FP&A on revenue forecasts and actuals; own all revenue-related external disclosures including 10-Q/K footnotes, disaggregation tables, and MD&A commentary
- Partner with IT and Systems teams to lead the strategic roadmap for revenue automation and AI adoption - identifying and deploying AI tools to increase efficiency, improve accuracy, enhance analytics, and automate reporting across the revenue function; leverage NetSuite ARM and other financial technologies to eliminate manual effort at scale; support M&A due diligence, purchase accounting for revenue-related items, and integration of acquired entities
- Monitor emerging accounting standards (FASB, SEC) and lead the company's assessment and implementation of new guidance; develop and maintain global revenue accounting policies ensuring consistent application across all business units, geographies, and go-to-market channels; build, mentor, and develop a world-class global revenue accounting team with clear organizational structure, career paths, and succession plans
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA required; MBA or advanced degree a plus
- 12+ years of progressive revenue accounting experience, including Big 4 public accounting and in-house executive or senior leadership roles at a public company
- Deep subject matter expertise in ASC 606 and US GAAP, including complex multi-element arrangements, variable consideration, licensing, and SaaS/technology business models; ASC 326 (CECL) experience strongly preferred
- Hands-on technical writer and communicator: must independently research, draft, and defend accounting memos on complex ASC 606, CECL, and other US GAAP topics - this is a personal output expectation, not a delegated team function; demonstrated experience arguing positions directly with Big 4 auditors and SEC reviewersAbilitys
- Demonstrated executive leadership experience owning a global revenue accounting function, including revenue close, revenue operations, deals desk, contract review, and external reporting in a public company environment; proven hands-on leader who actively participates in technical work alongside the team - ChargePoint's culture requires leaders who do the work, not just manage itProven experience leading revenue s, deals desk, contract review, and external reporting in a public company environment
- Hands-on experience with NetSuite Advanced Revenue Management (ARM) required; ability to configure, optimize, and troubleshoot ARM revenue recognition rules and schedules; demonstrated interest in and experience with AI tools (e.g., generative AI, AI-assisted analytics, workflow automation) to drive efficiency and accuracy in accounting and reporting processes; strong analytics orientation - experience building and interpreting revenue cohort analysis, ARR/MRR bridges, bookings-to-revenue waterfalls, and disaggregation reportsStrong technical and analytical skills, with writing accounting memos and interpreting guidance
- Track record of building and scaling high-performing global revenue accounting teams; proven experience designing organizational structures and developing talent pipelines and succession plans
- Exceptional communication skills and executive presence: able to independently write clear, well-reasoned technical accounting memos, present complex positions to CFO and Audit Committee, and persuasively argue accounting conclusions directly with external auditors and SEC reviewersllent communication and executive presence; ability to present complex accounting topics clearly to CFO, Audit Committee, external auditors, and investors
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with demonstrated success partnering with Sales, Legal, IT, FP&A, and external auditors
