Job description

Security Officer

To be fully engaged in providing Uncompromised Safety, Superior Quality, Memorable Patient/Customer Experiences, and Financial Stewardship by leading the work of the security team on assigned shift with effective communication, use of resources and problem-solving to ensure the safety and security of associates, patients, and visitors of Health First facilities.

Primary Accountabilities:

  1. Responsible for supervision of officers on assigned shift, including reviewing reports and ensuring all duties/responsibilities are completed in a timely manner.
  2. Assists with Kronos timekeeping and schedule changes.
  3. Deters criminal activity and misconduct; investigates suspicious situations; performs security patrols of designated areas on foot or in vehicle.
  4. Watches for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or safety hazards.
  5. Sounds alarms or calls police/fire department in case of fire or presence of unauthorized persons.
  6. Warns violators of rule infractions such as loitering, smoking or carrying prohibited articles.
  7. Permits authorized persons to enter property and monitors entrances and exits.
  8. Observes departing personnel to protect against theft of company property and ensures authorized removal of property is conducted within appropriate physical security requirements.
  9. Conducts patient escorts, patient watches, and provides safety escorts.
  10. Assists and/or transports deceased to morgue.
  11. Completes required shift logs and reports; complies with site post orders, and Health First policies and procedures.
  12. Investigates and prepares reports on accidents, incidents, and suspicious activities.
  13. Assists associates, patients, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.
  14. Inspects Security Officer State of Florida required credentials prior to every shift and ensures all weapons are checked in and properly secured at the end of every shift.
  15. Performs other related duties as assigned or directed by department supervision.
  16. Maintains required certifications, licensing, weapon qualifications, and training to achieve professional competency as appropriate for the position.

Work Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Must meet at least one of the following education or experience requirements:
  1. Graduate of Police/Corrections Academy.
  2. Associate's degree or above in Criminal Justice.
  3. Active Military (Four [4] year term of service minimum).
  4. Law Enforcement experience.
  5. Serve in Elite Military Forces, Military Police, or Combat Arms.
  • Work Experience: None
  • Licensure:
    1. Class "D" Security Officer Licensure in the State of Florida.
    2. Class "G" Security Officer Licensure in the State of Florida.
    3. Valid Driver's License and clean Motor Vehicle Record and maintained.
  • Certification: At least one (1) of the following certifications within thirty (30) days of start date.
    1. American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course OR
    2. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider Completion Card.
  • Work Experience In Lieu of Education: One (1) year of verifiable security officer experience.
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
    1. Expected completion of Crisis Prevention Training within first 90 days.
    2. Physical ability to deal with or subdue mental health patients in crisis.
    3. Must be willing to carry out tasks that may require entering the hospital morgue and the roof-top helipad.
    4. Ability to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors.
    5. Ability to interact cordially and communicate with the public.
    6. Display exceptional customer service and communication skills.
    7. Active listening skills.
    8. Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively.
    9. Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately.
    10. Attention to detail.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Work Experience: One (1) year security supervisor or management experience.

    Physical Requirements:

    • Physically agile; requires walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, or crouching majority of the shift.
    • Heavy work that frequently includes lifting or moving objects up to 100 pounds or more with or without assistance.
    • May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or overhead.
    • May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
    • May be exposed to inside environments and outside environments with extreme temperatures, air contamination, dirt, grease, or water.
    • May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC guidelines.
    • May operate various types of manual and motorized equipment used in the transportation of materials.
    • May be exposed to intense noise or vibration and awkward or confined work position.
    • Communicating with others to exchange information.
    • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
    • Workspace may vary from open to confined.
    • May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
