About IPSD:
Caterpillar's Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L engines that not only power Caterpillar machines, but also power over 5000 other applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. Caterpillar's company strategy includes sustainability as one of four focus areas and IPSD is engaged and actively preparing green energy solutions for the future.
Job Summary:
We're seeking a Design Engineer for our Fluid Systems Engineering team. This person will be responsible for participating in complex engineering projects including the design, test, and development of new product concepts for release to production in a manner to ensure those products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. You will provide practical product design experience using complex technical principles supporting build processes and influencing the integration of new product components and technologies.
What You Will Do:
  • Prepares concept, design, development, and feasibility studies of complex engineering projects.
  • Organizes and executes the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes.
  • Assisting supply specialists and buyers with supplier development and supplier performance.
  • Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detail design documents. Participating in buy-build analysis for product components.
  • Participating in and supporting proposal preparation, and technical reports.
  • Uses technical expertise and product knowledge to participate in the problem resolution process when interfacing with Test and Evaluation, Service, Plant personnel, suppliers, and consultants.

What You Will Have:
Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.
Managing Multiple Priorities: Knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
Product Design - MFG: Knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.
Product Design and Development: Knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
Education: Degree from an accredited Mechanical or Agricultural Engineering Program or related field.
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
  • Ability to gain a mastery of complex engineering and manufacturability concepts.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with a desire to be hands on
  • Demonstrated abilities of taking a product design from concept to production.
  • CAD Design Experience (Creo, Pro/E, Solidworks, etc.)
  • Simulation led design experience, ability to iterate designs quickly based on analysis results.

Summary Pay Range:
$97,530.00 - $146,290.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
