Position: Culinary Training Consultant (Contract - Based)

Why we need you:

As a Culinary Training Consultant based in Houston, Texas, you will share your culinary expertise with galley crews by delivering engaging training sessions, providing hands‑on instruction, and conducting onboard visits to vessels calling at ports in Houston and the surrounding areas.You will support galley crews in developing their culinary skills, enhancing operational performance, and maintaining the highest standards of quality and excellence within the maritime industry. Through practical, culturally aligned training and professional consultancy, you will empower crew members to strengthen their capabilities, build confidence, and succeed in their roles.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:
  • Conducting physical onboard visits to vessels calling at ports in Houston, Texas, and surrounding areas to assess galley operations, provide professional consultancy, and deliver hands‑on culinary training to galley crews.
  • Conducting theoretical and practical culinary training sessions for galley personnel, both onboard vessels and at designated training facilities in the Houston area, as required.
  • Monitoring galley standards, inventory practices, and operational efficiency, while providing recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Preparing and submitting detailed reports following vessel visits, training sessions, operational findings, and action points.
  • Coaching, mentoring, and assessing trainees to support their competency development and ensure the effective application of culinary standards and best practices onboard.
  • Following up on training requirements, assessments, and coordinating with vessels, principals, the Culinary Training Supervisor, and Fleet Supervisors on training and operational matters.
  • Supporting the development of training programs and performing additional duties related to culinary training operations.
  • Assisting and supporting the Culinary Training Supervisor.
  • Performing other duties as assigned to support training initiatives.
You need these qualifications:
  • Graduate of a Culinary College or Hotel Management College.
  • Minimum 2 years of working experience as a Chef.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and general computer literacy.
  • Excellent command of the English language (written and verbal).
  • Strong communication skills, willingness to travel, and a passion for teaching and mentoring.
It would be nice if:
  • You have prior experience conducting culinary training and consultancy, or mentoring kitchen staff.
  • You have prior experience as a Chief Cook onboard merchant vessels.
  • You are familiar with maritime catering standards and practices.
