Catering Supervisor - Job Description

Reports to: Food Service Manager

Position Overview: The Catering Supervisor oversees catering operations, staff coordination, recipe and menu support, and event execution from the food and beverage perspective, ensuring a seamless and high-quality guest experience. This role is a working supervisor position and is expected to actively participate in food preparation and cooking during events. This role is primarily focused on catering and event execution, with additional support responsibilities in Quick Service and Event Operations as needed to help fill operational gaps.

Key Responsibilities:

Catering (Primary Focus)

  • Lead catering operations during events, including hands-on food preparation, cooking, setup, service, and cleanup.

  • Supervise and coordinate catering staff to ensure high-quality service and consistency.

  • Assist in menu/recipe creation, standardization, and presentation.

  • Actively cook and execute menu items alongside catering staff during events to ensure quality and timing standards are met.

  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and venue standards.

  • Assist with inventory management, event setup logistics, and equipment preparation.

  • Coordinate tasting events for weddings and other special events.

  • Review weekly BEOs with the events, catering team, and bartenders to ensure smooth, cohesive events.

  • Coordinate and execute catering services for group outings, field trips, and other non-wedding/event functions as needed.

Administrative Tasks

  • Track catering inventory levels and communicate ordering needs with the Food Service Manager.

  • Maintain documentation for recipes, event plans, and staff training.

  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for catering operations to ensure consistent service, quality, and staff training.

  • Track food costs and collaborate with the Food Service Manager and Revenue team to evaluate menu pricing.

  • Collaborate with other Food Service Supervisors to maintain kitchens, prep areas, and food storage locations.

Event Operations Support (Secondary Responsibility)

  • Support overall event execution as needed to help fill operational gaps across departments.

  • Assist Event and Operations teams with setup, flow, and guest experience support when required.

  • Step into event-day coordination support roles during high-volume or complex events as needed.

Quick Service (Secondary Responsibility)

  • Assist with quick service operations as needed during peak times or staffing gaps.

  • Support service flow and guest experience in Quick Service while maintaining catering/event priorities.

Catering and event execution responsibilities take priority. Quick Service and general Event/Operations support are secondary functions and will be assigned based on business needs and staffing coverage.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in catering, banquet, event food service, or hospitality supervision

  • Experience leading or supporting events in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong communication and team leadership skills

  • Ability to stay organized and manage multiple events or priorities

  • Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation standards

  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, and holidays based on events

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working weddings or large-scale events

  • Familiarity with BEOs or event schedules

  • ServSafe Certification (or willingness to obtain)

  • Experience in high-volume food service and preparation or hospitality environments

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand and move for extended periods

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40โ€“50 lbs

  • Frequent bending, reaching, and setup/teardown work

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced event environment
