What are category managers?

Category managers are professionals responsible for managing a group or category of products within a company. They analyze market trends, consumer behavior, and sales data to make decisions about product selection, pricing, promotion, and placement. Job description

About the Role 🚽

(Keeping it clean where it counts!)

DUDE Wipes is looking for a sharp, detail-obsessed Category Insights Analyst to join our growing Sales Strategy team. This role reports directly to the VP of Sales Strategy and works in close partnership with our Category Insights Manager — sitting at the heart of a small but mighty category team built to punch well above its weight.

You will own the day-to-day data work: building and maintaining the reporting infrastructure, mining syndicated and panel data to identify trends, and translating raw numbers into clean, compelling outputs that inform our growth. As DUDE Products expands its portfolio across categories and retail channels, you’ll be critical to ensuring we have the category intelligence needed to support innovation, new product launches, and growth in retail distribution.

If you geek out on category data, get fired up about retailer strategy and shopper dynamics, and want to make a real impact in the butt-wiping industry — keep reading.

What you’ll do 💩

(Getting down and dirty!)

Data Management & Reporting

  • Own the build and maintenance of recurring category reporting across syndicated, panel, and retailer data sources — delivering clean, consistent outputs on a weekly, monthly, and ad hoc basis.
  • Serve as the team’s primary operator of Bedrock, our data harmonization and visualization platform — maintaining dashboards, troubleshooting data discrepancies, and building new views as the business evolves.
  • Ensure data integrity and consistency across all reporting; flag anomalies and proactively communicate impacts to the Category Insights Manager and VP of Sales Strategy.
  • Support multi-brand portfolio tracking across our growing product lineup — maintaining category views that reflect each brand’s distinct competitive landscape and retail footprint.

Analysis & Insights

  • Conduct in-depth analysis of syndicated data (Nielsen, Circana), panel data (Numerator), and retailer POS data to identify trends, white space, and growth opportunities across Grocery and Long Tail channels.
  • Support competitive analysis to understand market dynamics, track share shifts, and monitor new item activity across relevant categories.
  • Pull and synthesize data to support line reviews and strategic planning conversations — delivering insights in a format the Category Insights Manager can act on quickly.
  • Assist in building retailer- and customer-specific category stories by providing the underlying data and analysis that inform tailored presentations for Grocery and Long Tail accounts.

Distribution Growth & Innovation Support

  • Provide category data and analysis to support new product launches, distribution growth initiatives, and portfolio expansion across Grocery, convenience, drug, and other long-tail retail channels.
  • Track distribution progress and post-launch performance to surface early signals that inform our go-forward strategy.
  • Support the Category Insights Manager in sizing distribution opportunities and building the fact base for retailer sell-in conversations.

Cross-Functional Support

  • Partner with the broader Sales Strategy team (VP Sales Strategy, Sr. RGM, Category Insights Manager) to ensure category data supports pricing, promotion, and assortment initiatives.
  • Support the Sales team on key retailer initiatives and line reviews – providing data, analysis, and category context needed to demonstrate category and brand expertise to buyers.
  • Track and report on category KPIs, ensuring the team has a real-time pulse on performance across brands and channels.
  • Stay current on industry trends, data platform updates, and best practices in CPG category management.

Qualifications 🧻

(How we hope you’ve already left your… mark!)

Required

  • 2–3 years of experience in category insights, market research, or a related analytical role in CPG — prior CPG experience is required.
  • Strong proficiency in syndicated and panel data platforms, specifically Nielsen, Circana, and Numerator.
  • Advanced Excel skills; comfort with SQL or other data querying tools is a strong plus.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy — you’re the last line of defense before numbers go to leadership.
  • Solid communication skills: you can package data clearly in PowerPoint and explain “what it means” to non-analyst audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously across brands and categories in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with a data visualization or BI platform (Tableau, Domo, or similar). You’ll be working in Bedrock — our data harmonization and visualization platform — on a daily basis, so prior experience with Bedrock specifically would be a significant advantage.
  • Familiarity with AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, or similar) to accelerate data synthesis, analysis, and content development.
  • Familiarity with Walmart Scintilla (formerly Luminate) — our broker team owns this platform day-to-day, but exposure is a plus.
  • Experience supporting multi-brand or portfolio-level category work.
  • Knowledge of the personal care, hygiene, or household paper categories.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to the Chicago, IL area — strongly preferred.

At DUDE, we carefully consider a wide range of compensation factors, including your background, experience, and geographic location.

We are an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for all members of our team, clients, customers, contractors, vendors, and job applicants. We do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex (including pregnancy and gender identity), national origin, political affiliation, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, genetic information, age, membership in an employee organization, retaliation, parental status, military service, or other non-merit factor.
