Catholic Religious Education Coordinator
Schedule & Availability

  • Part-time position: Approximately 30 hours per month.
  • Weekday hours: Between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Description:
We are seeking a qualified and dedicated Catholic Religious Education Coordinator to organize and support Catholic faith formation and religious education programs for children, youth, and adults.
The coordinator will oversee religious education activities, sacramental preparation, volunteer coordination, curriculum planning, special faith-based events, and program administration. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Catholic teachings and practices, excellent organizational and communication skills, and experience working with religious education programs and volunteers.
Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate Catholic religious education and faith formation programs for children, youth, and adults.
  • Coordinate religious education classes and sacramental preparation activities.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteer teachers, catechists, substitutes, and program volunteers.
  • Monitor and support catechists in completing required training and certification.
  • Conduct classes or lessons when adequate volunteer coverage is unavailable.
  • Organize at least two volunteer teacher-training events annually.
  • Coordinate special Catholic programs and events, including Christmas programs, Vacation Bible School, Catechetical Sunday, and volunteer recognition activities.
  • Develop an annual religious education calendar, curriculum timeline, and program schedule.
  • Visit and monitor religious education classes to support program quality and continuity.
  • Coordinate in-person and virtual religious education activities when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate enrollment, attendance, volunteer, program, and activity records.
  • Prepare announcements, flyers, calendars, newsletters, and other communications promoting religious education programs and events.
  • Maintain religious education materials, supplies, curriculum resources, and organized program records.
  • Assist with planning program supply and resource needs.
  • Participate in planning meetings and coordinate regularly with Catholic clergy, ministry leadership, volunteers, and other program stakeholders.
  • Maintain a welcoming, professional, confidential, and respectful environment for children, families, volunteers, and community members.
  • Follow applicable Catholic religious education standards, Safe Environment practices, and child protection requirements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic in good standing with the Catholic Church.
  • Must be able to provide a letter of good standing from a local Catholic priest or parish.
  • Must be an approved Catechist with the Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) and be able to provide documentation of approval.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience in areas such as religious education, teaching, program coordination, administration, Bible studies, faith formation, or volunteer ministry.
  • Bachelor's degree in education or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • A bachelor's degree in religious studies or theology is preferred but not required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Catholic teachings, liturgical practices, religious education standards, sacraments, and faith formation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong organizational, administrative, scheduling, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to effectively recruit, coordinate, train, and work with volunteers.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Comfortable using shared digital platforms and virtual meeting technologies such as Zoom or similar applications.
  • Must be able to successfully complete required background screening for a position involving interaction with children and youth.
  • Must be willing to complete applicable Safe Environment and child protection training.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive information.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience as a Religious Education Coordinator, Director of Religious Education, Catechist, Catholic educator, or religious education teacher.
  • Experience coordinating sacramental preparation and Catholic faith formation programs.
  • Experience recruiting, training, and managing volunteers.
  • Familiarity with Archdiocese for the Military Services (AMS) religious education and catechist standards.
  • Experience planning Vacation Bible School, Christmas programs, retreats, faith formation events, or similar religious activities.
