What is a Cat Modeling job?

A Cat Modeling job involves assessing and analyzing catastrophic (CAT) risks like hurricanes, earthquakes, and floods using statistical models and simulations. The role requires expertise in data analysis, geospatial modeling, and specialized software such as RMS or AIR.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Cat Modeling position, and why are they important?

To thrive in cat modeling, you need an in-depth understanding of feline behavior, patience in handling animals, and a background in animal care or training. Experience with photo shoots, familiarity with basic animal training tools, and pet handling certifications can be strong assets. Attention to detail, excellent communication with handlers, and the ability to remain calm under pressure are valuable soft skills. These abilities help ensure both animal welfare and successful photoshoots, making the cat modeling process smooth and effective.

What does a typical workday look like for a cat modeling professional?

A typical day in cat modeling involves preparing cats for shoots, working closely with animal handlers, and ensuring each animal remains calm and comfortable throughout the session. Professionals in this field often collaborate with photographers, stylists, and sometimes veterinary staff to make sure the shoot goes smoothly and the animals' needs are met. Responsibilities may include grooming, managing transportation logistics, and participating in both indoor and outdoor shoots. Flexibility is key, as shoot schedules can vary and last-minute changes are common. The role is hands-on and dynamic, combining animal care with elements of the fashion and advertising industries.

Job description

Are you a passionate animal welfare leader ready to make a real difference for cats in need? Stray Cat Alliance is looking for a Director of Operations to help drive our lifesaving mission forward.

About Us

Stray Cat Alliance is a leading LA-based nonprofit dedicated to creating a better world for cats through high quality medical and wellness care, adoptions, spay/neuter services, trap-neuter-return (TNR), and community support programs. Our team is deeply committed to creating humane, community-based solutions while working toward a no-kill nation.

The Role

The Director of Operations provides leadership, direction, and supervision of our clinical practice and our lifesaving programs to ensure best practices and high standards across all operations. You'll oversee day-to-day animal care, enrichment, medical care, programming, and facilities: making sure communication flows smoothly, teams are supported, and every animal in our care gets what they need.

This role is for someone who leads by example and isn't afraid of getting their hands dirty working alongside staff and volunteers. You'll model our core values, champion continuous improvement, and ensure that every team member delivers excellent customer service and upholds the highest standards in animal welfare.

What You'll Do

You'll oversee multiple departments and programs including foster, adoption, shelter medicine, Access to Care, Safe at Home, volunteers, and care for community cats. Your days will include coaching and developing staff, collaborating with veterinarian professionals in the clinic, and leading staff through the rewarding, and often difficult, realities of shelter work. You'll also help build a culture where every team member feels trusted, valued, and equipped to do their best work thanks to strong leadership, smooth operations, and excellent communication.

This role is meaningful and demanding in equal measure. You'll work in an active shelter environment that can include exposure to animal odors, noise, and occasionally aggressive or injured animals.

What We're Looking For

  • 8+ years of animal sheltering leadership experience
  • 5+ years of team management experience
  • Strong communicator - comfortable speaking publicly and writing clearly
  • Calm under pressure, skilled at conflict resolution, and solutions-oriented
  • Proficient in Google Suite; ShelterLuv experience a plus
  • Deep commitment to the Stray Cat Alliance mission and to helping people
  • Availability for occasional evenings and weekends

This is a full-time, exempt position based primarily in South Los Angeles.
