Job Description:

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Adult Education program is seeking a part-time, Casual (hourly) Social Worker/ Therapeutic Counselor to support student attendance, social-emotional learning, and individual therapeutic counseling. The ideal candidate will have experience in school social work, counseling, trauma-informed care, case management, and working with adolescent or adult learners.

This position will provide direct student support through attendance outreach, SEL classroom presentations, short-term individual counseling, crisis support, and collaboration with staff to help remove barriers to student engagement and academic success.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's degree in Social Work.
  • Certificates & Licenses: Valid Virginia Department of Education license with an endorsement in Social Work, or eligibility to obtain one.
  • Key Competencies: Demonstrated sensitivity to the needs of individuals from diverse backgrounds. Bilingual preferred, not required

Essential Duties:

* Provide individual therapeutic counseling and short-term student support
* Conduct attendance outreach and follow-up with students and families
* Deliver Social Emotional Learning classroom presentations
* Support students with stress management, self-regulation, conflict resolution, and anger management
* Develop intervention strategies to increase student engagement and academic success
* Provide trauma-informed support, crisis intervention, and appropriate referrals
* Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to support student success

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance.
  • Tuberculosis Skin Test.
