French is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Buyer to support the procurement of raw materials, machined components, castings, fabrications, and outsourced machining services used in the production of custom industrial equipment.

The ideal candidate understands machine shop operations, manufacturing processes, machining capabilities, and supplier relationships. They know how to read drawings, work with engineering and production teams, source complex manufactured components, and identify qualified machine shops and fabrication vendors when additional capacity is needed.

If you have experience purchasing for a job shop, custom machinery manufacturer, industrial equipment builder, foundry, fabrication shop, or machining environment, we'd like to speak with you.

What You'll Do

  • Source and purchase raw materials, machined components, castings, fabrications, and outsourced manufacturing services
  • Identify, evaluate, and develop machine shops, fabrication shops, foundries, and other manufacturing suppliers to support production requirements
  • Solicit and evaluate quotes, negotiate pricing, lead times, and delivery commitments
  • Partner with Engineering and Manufacturing to review drawings, specifications, and sourcing requirements
  • Manage supplier performance related to quality, cost, delivery, and responsiveness
  • Develop alternate sourcing strategies and vendor relationships to support changing production demands
  • Generate purchase orders, maintain supplier records, and manage procurement activity within the ERP system
  • Expedite critical materials and resolve supplier-related issues affecting production schedules

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5+ years of purchasing, sourcing, or supply chain experience in a machine shop, job shop, custom machinery, industrial equipment, fabrication, or manufacturing environment
  • Experience purchasing machined components, castings, forgings, fabrications, steel, and other industrial materials
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, qualify, and develop new manufacturing suppliers and subcontract machining vendors
  • Understanding of machining processes including CNC milling, turning, fabrication, welding, and related manufacturing operations
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and communicate effectively with suppliers regarding technical requirements
  • Strong negotiation, supplier management, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working with ERP systems and purchasing software

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or related field
  • APICS/CPIM certification
  • Experience supporting custom equipment, capital equipment, heavy industrial, or engineered-to-order manufacturing environments
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 quality systems
