Job description

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer serving Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C. is hiring a Project Manager for their Global Power Division (CGP) in Richmond, Virginia. The CGP Project Manager is responsible for the successful planning, execution, and delivery of complex distributed power generation projects for Carter Global Power (CGP). The individual in this role oversees projects from award through operational handover, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest quality and customer satisfaction standards. Projects include grid-connected and behind-the-meter power solutions across data centers, utilities, industrial, oil and gas, and other mission-critical markets.
Seeking candidates with:
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related technical field (Or equivalent field experience).
  • Minimum five years of progressive project management experience in power generation, energy infrastructure, or heavy industrial construction.
  • PMP certification or equivalent, preferred.
  • Experience with Caterpillar, Solar Turbines, or similar OEM power systems is a strong plus.
  • Experience building utility-grade or mission-critical power infrastructure (data centers, utility-scale, or large industrial), a plus.
  • Background in rental generator deployments or temporary/bridge power solutions, preferred.

Requirements for the CGP Project Manager position include:
  • Strong technical knowledge of power generation systems, including diesel/natural gas reciprocating engines, turbines, electrical distribution, paralleling switchgear, transfer switches, fuel systems, emissions controls, and balance of plant equipment.
  • Familiarity with Energy-as-a-Service, PPA, or long-term contracted power delivery models.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi-vendor projects in the power generation or heavy industrial sector.
  • Must be able to manage multiple vendors, subcontractors, and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, global environment.
  • Excellent organizational, planning, and time-management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Strong financial background - ability to manage project budgets, forecasts, and margins.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and presentation skills; comfortable interacting with executives and technical teams.
  • Self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision and a proactive work ethic.
  • Strong negotiation, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with project management tools (MS Project / Planner, MS SharePoint, Procore, Jira or equivalent), Salesforce, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must have an excellent driving record.
  • Must be willing and able to travel 25-50%.
