Job description

Atlanta Technical College (ATC) is seeking a knowledgeable and dedicated candidate for its Adjunct Instructor - Carpentry (Part-Time) position in the Academic & Student Affairs Division. This position is located on Atlanta Technical College's Main campus, just south of downtown Atlanta, GA.

Under general supervision of the Dean of Industrial and Transportation Technology, the Adjunct Instructor - Carpentry will be a part-time faculty member who teaches in areas such as carpentry and general construction in the classroom and in practical settings. Successful candidates bring a student-first mindset, and current industry experience aligned to the specific courses taught. Adjunct faculty positions are temporary, part-time positions of employment appointed on a per-academic-term basis. This position may require teaching mornings, afternoons, evenings, and/or weekends based on department needs and availability.

Duties and responsibilities include, but may not be limited to the following:

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Demonstrates the use of appropriate teaching techniques.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Demonstrates the use of appropriate testing and grading procedures, including proper maintenance of grade books and any other appropriate record-keeping requirements.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Follows approved curriculum standards and course syllabi.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Monitors students' use of supplies, materials, and equipment.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Able to safely guide students in the process of site layout, materials estimation and acquisition, inventory storage, and materials management.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Advises and counsels students and maintains appropriate advisement records on each student.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Possess knowledge of the entire construction process from layout and design to finished construction.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Teach carpentry and general construction courses to include topics in design, safety, layout, framing, and finishing.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Attend meetings relating to the program, academic division, and college.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Visit area high schools and other partnering locations to promote or inform about the program.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Maintain accurate students' classroom performance records.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Submit grades as required at the end of each academic period.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Attend graduation ceremonies in appropriate academic regalia.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Observes and enforces the institution's policies and regulations.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Assists with student recruitment and job placement.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Serves on committees.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Maintains qualifications for employment as described by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and accreditation standards.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Follows rules and regulations as described by the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and other policies and procedures established by the institution; and

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Performs additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must possess and demonstrate the following:

ย ย ย ย ย Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent AND at least five (5) years of experience working in carpentry or construction; OR a higher credential in carpentry, construction, architecture, or related field.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Must possess and maintain appropriate professional credentials related to the field or position.

ย ย  Work experience must include the competencies, skills, and knowledge levels included in carpentry and construction management instructional programs.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Practical experience working on residential and/or commercial job sites.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Occupational experience must meet the current requirements of the appropriate licensing boards for the area of instruction.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, possess and demonstrate the following:

ย ย ย ย ย  Completion of a program or preparation in the teaching field or discipline (carpentry or construction management) at an accredited post-secondary institution, or completion of an equivalent military or sponsored training program or approved apprenticeship.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  Diploma in carpentry and at least 10 years' relevant work experience in carpentry or construction.

ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย  NCCER certification preferred
