Job description

THE ROLE

Avocado is currently looking for a Prep-Finisher to be part of the Carpentry team. This role will report to the Carpentry Manager.

The Carpentry Prep-Finisher will shape, finish, and restore our products. As a wood finisher, you will be required to examine the product, identify damaged areas, disassemble the basic parts, and smooth or shape the wood. You will also be required to apply finishing lubricants to achieve the desired color and design. This candidate will be part of a dynamic fast-growing team responsible for creating our eco-friendly organic mattress wood frames and furniture pieces!

  • Note on Location: Here at Avocado Green Brands, we treasure teamwork and working together in person. You will be working on-site at one of our Fullerton locations.
  • Note on Pay Transparency: The pay range for this role is $17.00 - $17.44 hourly.

WHAT YOU'LL BE WORKING ON...

  • Disassembling the furniture or wooden item.
  • Inspecting the wood for rot and physical damage.
  • Repairing broken parts, removing imperfections, and filling in cracks.
  • Removing old finishings and excess solvent.
  • Sanding and smoothing the item in preparation for finishing.
  • Selecting and applying finishing lubricants such as varnish, stains, or shellac.
  • Replacing or refurbishing upholstery.


WHAT YOU BRING

  • Previous experience as a Wood Finisher is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • In-depth knowledge of staining and finishing techniques.
  • Excellent hand-eye coordination.
  • Advanced design skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Experience with hand and power tools.
  • Follow company safety culture and Cal OSHA regulations.
  • Report incident injury and hazard to managers.
  • Able to identify work hazard situations.
  • Following the company safety culture while performing the job duties required for the position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to wear personal protective gear like safety glasses.
  • Must be comfortable working in an environment with machinery noise.
  • Stationary position:
    • Must be able to remain stationary 50% of the time.
  • Movements:
    • Must be able to move throughout the warehouse to access different machines.
    • Must be able to frequently move material weighing up to 50 pounds.
