What is a carpentry contract?

A Carpentry Contract is a legally binding agreement between a client and a carpenter or carpentry business for the completion of specific woodworking or carpentry tasks. This contract typically outlines the scope of work, project timelines, payment terms, materials to be used, and other relevant details to ensure that both parties understand their obligations. Having a written contract helps to prevent misunderstandings and provides legal protection in case of disputes. It is commonly used for residential, commercial, or renovation projects where carpentry services are required.

Job description

Job Title: Carpenter – Contract Hourly (Fabrication / Woodwork)
Location: Denver, CO (In-shop fabrication + occasional field work)
Type: Hourly, contract (non-exempt)
Reports to: Shop Manager

About Us

We are a dynamic fabrication workshop specializing in custom builds for trade show booths, experiential marketing activations, branded event environments, and other one-off installations. We value craftsmanship, creativity, teamwork, and a “get-it-done” builder mindset.

Position Summary

We’re looking for a skilled and motivated Carpenter to join our team on a contract basis. This person will assist in building, assembling, finishing and staging wood and mixed-material components in our shop, and occasionally on site. They will work closely with carpenters, fabricators, installers and the broader team to bring custom builds to life. The ideal candidate is hands-on, comfortable with tools, materials and physical work, thrives on collaboration, and takes pride in quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with the construction of wood, metal and mixed-material components: cutting, fitting, sanding, finishing, assembly.

  • Read and interpret basic drawings, shop sketches, build instructions; ask questions and verify dimensions.

  • Work with hand tools and power tools (saws, drills, sanders, joiners, etc.) safely and proficiently.

  • Collaborate with carpenters, fabricators and team members to assemble modules, install hardware, fasten assemblies, and prepare components for installation.

  • Load, unload, move and stage materials and finished elements in the shop and/or on site.

  • Maintain a clean, safe and organized workshop environment; follow shop safety protocols and PPE requirements.

  • Help pack, crate, or wrap components for transport to job sites or events.

  • Occasionally assist with on-site installs and breakdowns (trade shows or experiential activations) — travel time and conditions may vary.

  • Work efficiently to meet production/build schedule deadlines while maintaining quality.

  • Report issues, material or build obstacles to supervisor; suggest improvements when appropriate.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience working in a fabrication, carpentry, woodworking or shop environment (ideally 1-3 years or more) building components, assemblies, or display/install pieces.

  • Comfortable with woodwork (cutting, joinery, finishing) and mixed materials (for example laminates, metal hardware, composite panels) — ability to “build things”.

  • Good team player: able to collaborate, communicate clearly, receive direction and contribute proactively.

  • Solid mechanical aptitude: ability to use hand/power tools safely, perform measurements, fit and align parts accurately.

  • Attention to detail and pride in workmanship — clean fits, good finish, safe builds.

  • Ability to read simple sketches, shop drawings, work orders; interpret instructions and ask clarifying questions.

  • Physical stamina: ability to stand for long periods, lift/move materials (e.g., 50 lbs or more), bend/crouch as needed.

  • Reliable, punctual, self-motivated.

  • Willingness to follow shop safety protocols and contribute to a safe working environment.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have

  • Experience in Cabinetry/Cabinet making.

  • Experience in trade-show, event-build, experiential marketing, display fabrication.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline‐driven environment.

  • Familiarity with metalwork or basic welding/fastening would be a plus.

  • Forklift or material-handling equipment experience.

  • Valid driver’s license (for on-site install travel).

Contract Terms & Hours
  • Hourly rate: $25-$30 (based on experience)

  • Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm; overtime or evenings may be required depending on project deadlines

  • Location: Shop in Denver metro area; occasional travel to job sites (trade shows, installations) required.

  • No permanent benefits (unless otherwise specified) as this is a contract role; however, we provide required safety gear, training, and a collaborative shop environment.
