A beginner carpenter typically earns an hourly wage that ranges from minimum wage up to around $15-$20, depending on the region and employer. It typically lasts 3-4 years and includes earning a wage while learning to use tools and read blueprints, making it a valuable pathway into a carpentry career.

Is 27 too old for an apprenticeship?

Carpentry apprenticeships are open to individuals of various ages, and 27 is not considered too old to start. Many apprentices begin in their late teens or early twenties, but age does not typically disqualify someone from entering the trade, especially if they are committed to learning skills like using hand tools and safety procedures. Employers value dedication and practical skills regardless of age.

How to become a carpenter apprentice with no experience?

To become a carpenter apprentice with no experience, you can apply directly to construction companies or unions that offer apprenticeship programs, which often accept candidates with a high school diploma or equivalent. Demonstrating basic math skills, physical fitness, and a willingness to learn can improve your chances; some programs may require passing a skills assessment or safety training. Once accepted, you'll learn on the job while working under experienced carpenters and may need to complete related technical coursework.
